Book Review: Keeping It Simple!: Keys to Living an Uncomplicated Life

During the spring of 2010 I met a woman named Jayne at a local Southern New England Women’s Expo. I was speaking at the Expo about Social Media, there were about 15 people at my session, and it was wonderful because I could literally feel and see the “ah-ha” moments from everyone as I honed in on how social media could potentially help each one of their business ideas. It was a very cool thing to see.

After I was done speaking, Jayne came up to me and introduced herself and told me a bit about her story. She was so genuine and warm and engaging, that I completely lost track that another speaker was supposed to come on after me! So Jayne and I exchanged info and she told me about her dream to write a book and I asked her to keep me updated on her progress.

And she has. And I couldn’t be more proud for her.

Keeping It Simple!: Keys to Living an Uncomplicated Life is here.

You know, it’s funny. I’ve always led a busy life. I’ve always been one of those people that feel more calm and more peaceful when life is going 100 miles a minute. But it’s not always good. I wouldn’t say I live a simple life. Simple things make me happy, but I definitely wouldn’t describe myself as someone who keeps it simple. I think that’s what intrigued me the most about Jayne’s book, I wanted to know her secrets, I wanted to hear her story, I wanted to know how she makes it all work. And now as a mother of 4 little boys, I want to know (even more) about ways to keep it simple.

Keeping It Simple!: Keys to Living an Uncomplicated Life shares practical wisdom with you that can easily help you transform the way you see your life. Not only that, Keeping It Simple helps you become more aware of the spiritual threads that exist in your everyday experiences. Jayne keeps it simple by sharing principles and keys that will empower you to live in the moment. And that’s a beautiful thing.

I’ve always believed in having faith and believing in guardian angels. I’ve always felt extremely connected spiritually to my grandfather, who passed away 3 years before I was born. I have always felt him apart of my life. Always felt him around me. And with the passing of my Nana 3 years ago, I always feel her around me. She’s absolutely part of who I am, still.

So when I began reading Jayne’s book, it absolutely all made so much sense to me and it felt so wonderful to see someone sharing this information and being so utterly and incredibly passionate about it.

Some of my favorite chapters… You Gotta Have Faith! (chapter 3), Setting Intentions (chapter 6), Keeping up with the Jonses (chapter 10), The Pursuit of Happiness (chapter 12), Find your Joy (chapter 16) and Children Are Our Future (chapter 17).

I love how Jayne writes, “Having faith is also a choice.” I felt like this was such a powerful sentence because I feel like if you’re going to have a uncomplicated life, you need to have some kind of faith… and that faith is a choice. It’s something you decide to believe in.

What I love most about Keeping It Simple! is Jayne’s personal stories and insights throughout the book. You connect with Jayne. You understand her. You trust her. And you want this journey to begin with her. It’s such a wonderful read… and the kind of book you will pick up over and over and over again.

We all have so much going on in our lives… even if you just take today for me (personally):
1) Morning meeting
2) Preschool drop-off
3) Preschool pick-up
4) 5 postings due by 1PM
5) Conference calls
6) Kindergarten drop-off
7) Conference call
8) School pick-up
9) Basketball practice

And then never mind breakfast, lunch, dinner, homework, chores and everything else!

It’s necessary to slow it down and find ways to live a more simple and uncomplicated life. There’s no reason to be stressed over unnecessary things. The world is complicated, but that doesn’t mean your life needs to be! Enjoy it!

I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason. I was meant to meet Jayne that day in 2010… and I am so glad we not only met, but connected.
