The Mom Challenge

Last Thursday night, Vera and I hosted a Twitter Party for Simply Orange Juice. We’ve hosted tons of Twitter Parties together in the past, but there was something extra special about the other night.

Simply Orange Juice chose the theme to be… Simple Changes to a Better You.

We actually thought the theme was perfect because it aligned perfectly with our Getting Gorgeous message… and since Simply Orange Juice was a sponsor at our April Getting Gorgeous – it was perfect!

When we started the Twitter Party, it was like magic happened!

The whole reason we started Getting Gorgeous Events was because we knew (especially from ourselves!) that moms need some time to take care of themselves. We don’t do this on a regular basis, we just don’t. And it’s SO IMPORTANT! We wanted to remind moms that it was OK to treat themselves every now and then, and it doesn’t have to be ridiculously expensive or crazy time consuming.

And so… when we saw some of the tweets pouring in from our Twitter Party, it was jaw-dropping to us. We all began to talk about the little things we should do in order to take better care of ourselves. The stream was flooded with:

I shouldn’t be so hard on myself about the weight I gained after having my son.
I should focus on myself more.
I should finish school.
I should take up my hobby I dropped when I got pregnant.
I should go on more dates with my husband.

We both got so emotional with the tweets.

So… we knew we wanted to do something MORE with Getting Gorgeous. This is why we started this all.

So… we are introducing The Mom Challenge.

We thought it would be nice to have a place where we can support one another and encourage one another to take care of ourselves. We know it’s not always easy… as a matter of fact, it’s a challenge — which is why we’ve named it The Mom Challenge.

Once a day, we’re going to post a task – a challenge if you will – and you have the choice to do it or to ignore it. But at least I know that seeing that status update will get you thinking of yourself.

They’ll always be different and fun! We would LOVE for you to join us!

I’m joining you Audrey! I love this idea! I am like you – I have 3 kids and the oldest is 4 years old. The ONLY way to keep my sanity with so much depending on me is to take care of myself first. That is what I have told people on my blog over and over. I’ll be spreading the word, thank you so much!

This is great, it’s perfect timing too, I’ve just been saying so much that I am last on my list of priorities with the kids, hubby, home and work. Thanks for challenging us to be better “us-es” <3
