Clothing Project

Yesterday Hurricane Irene “hit” Rhode Island. Our power went out around 7:30AM and it’s still not back on yet (thank goodness my mom has power and I can get Internet here!).

So yesterday we didn’t have TV, computers, Nintendo DS games, Wii, XBOX, NOOK, Kindle, phones or ANYTHING! It was all about games and drawing/coloring, reading actual books and getting some projects done around the house that didn’t require power.

I have been putting this off FOREVER because I knew this was going to be a massive undertaking, but I grabbed my husband and we went to town completely cleaning out the drawers and wardrobes and closets for my sons. We had piles for William, Alex, Ben and Henry… and then went through EVERYTHING to see what we could donate.

Here was William and Alex’s piles…

I cannot believe the amount of clothes they had… not to mention the clothes I forgot they had! It was such a cleansing to do this and just get rid of things they don’t wear or don’t fit any longer.

It took us 6 hours to go through all the boys’ stuff… but 4 gigantic trash bags later, I FEEL GOOD!

Now onto my closet…

Wow, I thought my two girls had a lot of clothes 🙂

I’m cleaning out theirs for the local consignment sale. It’s amazing, even at consignment prices how much it adds up to. Most seasons I don’t have the energy to do consignment and go with donation too.

Isn’t is so much easier to keep things clean and get the laundry done when they have less clothes? I am going to be doing this, too, as I have to see what they still need for school. If I didn’t get rid of their too small/ripped up/stained they would wear them without a thought! Boys are too funny that way. 🙂

One of my favorite past-times. You feel so good when you get it all done, and even better when you donate it all. Big Sisters RI is on my speed-dial.
