Chatting with Soleil Moon Frye

When I was a little girl I LOVED the show Punky Brewster. I mean, LOVED. I loved her fashion-self. I loved her wit and her humor. And I loved watching all the adventures she would get into on her own. It was such a wonderful show for little kids to watch and learn something from… in a fun way.

Now Punky, otherwise known as Soleil Moon Frye, is a mom to 2 beautiful little girls (Poet and Jagger) and has immersed herself into social media through blogging and Twitter (@moonfrye) and Facebook. I think it’s AWESOME!

Soleil is one busy mompreneur! Her The Little Seed boutique – which sells all eco-friendly items – is a fabulous destination for moms, and also has an amazing community component in which moms can connect, chat and engage with each other. I love seeing moms doing incredible things, especially things that make a true difference. Soleil also serves as a Target Mommy Ambassador.

I recently had the chance to interview her about her new book due out August 23rd – HAPPY CHAOS: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfectly Imperfect Adventures in Between!

Q: Hi Soleil, thank you so much for chatting with me! I’d love to know, what was the inspiration behind writing your book?
A: I was so inspired by my kids and our everyday happy chaos. I constantly turned to social media to connect with other parents because I felt like our world was so crazy and I wondered if anyone else was experiencing the same insanity. I found a world of parents out there to connect with and they became my mommy group.

Q: As a mom of 4 little boys, motherhood has mellowed me out! I guess – especially with all boys! 🙂 What about motherhood changed you the most?
A: I always thought that I’d be able to give my children the wisdom I gained over the years and teach them so many life lessons. I soon realized that they would be my teachers and that I would learn more from them than I would have every imagined.

Q: What was it like growing up in front of America?
A: I loved Punky, she was such a fun and spunky character. I have always loved being able to connect to people and she is still such a big part of my heart and who I am. I hold her very close to me.

Q: You’re such an inspiration to moms everywhere as a mompreneur. What has been your drive in creating your business?
A: I’ve always believed in following my dreams and I was blessed with a mother that always encouraged me to do so. I also realized that I could be a hands-on parent while also creating a business and following my heart.

Q: Tell me… do you have a secret for trying to balance it all – motherhood, marriage, work, family and friends? 🙂
A: I’m still working on that one, it’s a constant struggle, but I try my best!

I missed Punky but remember her sparkled presence on Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Thanks for the chat here! Yet it sure was short. What did she have for breakfast? What’s her favorite story in the book? Howcome her girls were so giggly for the cover shoot?
