A Date with Two Lovely Girls at stardoll and Unilever’s Back-to-School Bash

Last Tuesday evening, my husband (aka Grandpa) and I had a date with the two most lovely girls in the world… our granddaughters Taylor and Maddie.

Taylor and Maddie are 10-year old cousins who are quick to tell you that Taylor is the oldest, 3 1/2 months older, to be exact.

Little did we know a decade or so ago that after these two baby bundles of all-things-pink-and-precious, there would be 7 boys.  In a row. Count ’em.  7.

There are all kinds of things that happen in our world of grandparenting that revolve around out-of-doors stuff and action stuff and fun stuff and even totally awesome & gross stuff… but quite honestly, rarely do we get to do totally awesome and fabulous fashion and beauty stuff with the girls.

That all changed on our date to the stardoll and Unilever Don’t Fret the Sweat Back-to-School Bash event for Tweens in New York City.  The “Don’t Fret the Sweat” campaign provides expert tips and resources to help parents navigate the many sweat-inducing moments of their tween’s life and better understand the physical and emotional changes they’re facing. Grandpa was chauffeur for the day, driving all the way to the City from Rhode Island.  There was singing and giggling.  There was fashion talk and hair talk and school talk and friends talk.  There was summer reading talk and swim team talk.  There was a huge traffic jam and a million questions about will we get there on time

Maddie (l) and Taylor (r)

Not only did we get to the City on time, but we had time for a little art and a lotta dinner and discovered the most delightful little cafe on West 25th that made pasta exactly the way the girls love it…

Our two competitive swimmers... !
The best dinner ever... !

Could the day get any better?

Oh, yes it could!

We had arrived at Don’t Fret the Sweat!

Hair stylin’.  The sweetest make-up.  Fabulous fashions.  A photo shoot.  Delectable treats & cold milk in awesome glasses.  Picture frame decorating.  And a wonderful, warm one-on-one with famous author, educator and teen expert Rosalind Wiseman, who was as welcoming as an old friend!

Taylor and Maddie had the time of their lives getting ready for the big Back-to-School swing… with some new, fresh, Don’t Fret the Sweat ideas for every aspect of their Tweenage-hood.

The event, the night, the hosts, the sponsors, the guests, the activities… PERFECTION!

(And Grandma & Grandpa had our Tween bundles of all-things-precious for a PERFECT afternoon and evening of fabulous girl stuff!)
