Foils, Dye and Happiness

There’s many things in my life that bring me joy… my family, my friends, a (hot) steamy romance book, cup of coffee, warm shower after a long day, perfect slice of pizza, manicure… and yes, a visit to my hairdresser Leah at La La Luxe Salon (who also happens to be a really good friend of mine!).

I started finding grays (oh, yes…) in my hair about 5 years ago.  I wasn’t that surprised.  My grandfather was completely white by the time he was 35 years old.  His daughter, my mother – started going white when she was in her 30s.  So I knew it was just a matter of time.  Since my hair is (spoiler alert) naturally dark, the grays and whites popping up in my hair were like little neon signs saying, “Here I am!”

So I did what Leah (my miracle worker) recommended, “Go blonde. The blonde will hide the grays and the whites.”

And I’ve loved it.  Since the boys have light hair, kind of makes me feel like I’m fitting right in. And truthfully, I don’t know if many people know me or remember me with dark hair…

That was me and Matt in Dec of 2007… actually, on the day I found out Henry was a BOY. I think the whole… holy CRAP 4 BOYS(?) was going through my head in that photo.

But nonetheless, I started going blonde, blonde and blonder after Henry was born. I have to admit, I get such JOY going to the salon and relaxing. I sit. I read. I laugh with the ladies there. I get “beautified” by someone else (an expert!). I just get peace and joy… even with 50 foils in my hair…

And then they come out… and my hair looks lighter and Leah blows it out. For 45 minutes I get someone fawning over my hair, and you know… it’s just nice. As moms, we deserve a little pampering and something-something on the beauty front sometimes!

And just like that… happiness!

I was able to finagle a few hours away with the help of my mom and my husband – thank you for watching the boys!!

Find some time for a pampering break in your life, it’s necessary for us all!

Love the hair color! I agree. Trips to the salon are the best. 🙂

Aah! I colored my hair for 10 years – by accident. It started with simple highlights, then I had to cover the roots… then I was trapped in colored hair land. When I found out I was pregnant, I used it as an excuse to let the roots grow all the way out. And I haven’t gone back. Turns out my natural hair color was lovely. Of course, soon after this realization, I started getting gray hairs. I don’t know if it was turning 35, or having a baby – but the gray hairs, they kept coming. Now (5 years later) I’m feeling drab and unpretty… and thinking about revisiting the whole color-my-hair idea. You’re looking so good, it’s encouraging!
