Road Trip to Washington DC

Twizzlers Candy is doing something INCREDIBLY FUN this summer, they’ve selected 10 bloggers and their families to become the official Twizzlers Traveling Families and take a trip to a well-known destination, blogging their experiences along the way! They’re having us Road Trip to Washington DC! That’s right – we’re taking a Road Trip to Washington DC – IN A TWIZZLER VAN! This is going to be one of the most epic things we’ve ever done to date! HOLY MOLY!

Road Trip to Washington DC

Road Trip to Washington DC

I’m excited to announce that we, yes… the whole McClelland crew, is one of the Twizzlers Traveling Families!

We’re getting ready to pack ourselves up, load up with Twizzlers and road trip to Washington D.C. from Providence, RI this week! I haven’t even mentioned the best part of the trip yet (this is what my sons are most excited about), we’ll be cruising to DC in a Twizzlers-branded mobile!

Oh, yes.  We’re talking 450 miles.  8 hours.  And I would average about 8-10 potty breaks (no joke!) in our Twizzlers mobile. OMG! This Road Trip to Washington DC is going to be awesome!

To say we’re extremely excited is an understatement.

We chose Washington D.C. because we are going to start a family tradition with this special Twizzlers trip.

Road Trip to Washington DC

When I was a little girl, every June (as soon as school ended), my mom and dad would pack all 4 of us kids in the car and head to D.C. I have to admit, I used to dread the 8-hour road trip, but once we got there, it was such an incredible place to visit.  And the most special thing of all, we have photos of me, my sister and my brothers throughout the years at different monuments. The memories come flooding back to me, and it puts such a smile on my face.  I wanted to start the same memories for my own sons, so I thought this would be the most perfect and special way to kick it off – with Twizzlers!  Believe me, this will be a memory that they will never, ever forget!

Road Trip to Washington DC

I’ve been researching a bunch of stuff to do in Washington D.C. this week – so far, this is what I have:

1. National Zoo

2. Arlington

3. White House

4. Lincoln Memorial

5. Washington Monument

6. Vietnam Wall

7. Merry-go-round on the National Mall

8. National Air and Space Museum

9. National Mall

If you have anything to add-on, let me know!

We cannot wait to get going, only a few more days!

  1. I am from DC (now living in RI), and I would definitely add:

    The Spy Museum
    The Natural HIstory Museum
    The Air and Space Museum
    The Library of Congress
    The Capitol building
    * And make sure when you go to Arlington you see the changing of the guard (check for times). Very impressive!

    Have fun!!!

  2. Our family will be Twizzlers traveling to Pikes Peak, Colorado. I look forward to reading about your adventures!

  3. Audrey,

How cool is that!!! If anyone has to cancel out for any reason or if Twitter decides to add any new families in the future, would love to do something fun like this! We love to travel and since we homeschool, we can go anytime of the year! Hope you have a great time in DC! We are actually heading there soon, as dear hubby has training there.
Enjoy your road tripping and have a great day, Audrey and crew!!!

    🙂 Colleen
