Did you know May is Better Hearing and Speech Month? Hearing loss affects over 34 million Americans including 3 million children. This condition deeply affects the life of those who have it and the people in their lives.

Hearing loss is a personal thing for me and my family. My grandmother has had some form of hearing loss throughout her whole life, and as she’s gotten older, it’s gotten much more difficult for her to hear. I actually remember being a very little girl and noticing my grandmother’s hearing aids for the first time, I had know idea what they were. It was at a very young age when I first was told about my grandmother’s hearing and that if her hearing aids weren’t in, she wouldn’t hear what people were saying. I couldn’t believe it! My grandmother was such a young, healthy and fit woman (and believe it or not, at 86 years old… she still is!). I couldn’t believe she couldn’t hear, but it brought the awareness of hearing loss to my life, and it’s stayed.
