52 Weeks of Giving: Week 16

Each week throughout 2011 I will share how I am giving back somehow, whether it’s by offering my resources, my time, my talents or my support.

Giving back doesn’t have to be on a grand scale. And doesn’t have to be about money.

Oftentimes charities, organizations, causes and foundations need support beyond donations. And that’s what I’m going to try to focus on.

I will be sharing what I’m doing each week; perhaps you, too, will be inspired to give back.

Together we can make a difference.

52 Weeks of Giving: Week 16

Back in Week 8 of this project, I renewed my membership to Defenders of Animals, the animal rights and legislative group here in Rhode Island that connected me with my Sethy. I mentioned that I wanted to start doing more to give back to the organization that gave me so much love and happiness by bringing Seth into my life.

On May 1, Defenders of Animals hosted a May Day fundraising breakfast. I couldn’t make it to the breakfast because I was cheering for my mom during her first marathon… so I baked brownies for the breakfast, as Defenders needed people to provide desserts. I also baked chocolate chip cookies, but they came out terribly, so I ended up buying some bakery muffins to give with the brownies.

I was happy to offer my support for this event, and I look forward to doing more in the future for this wonderful organization.
