52 Weeks of Giving: Week 8

Each week throughout 2011 I will share how I am giving back somehow, whether it’s by offering my resources, my time, my talents or my support.

Giving back doesn’t have to be on a grand scale. And doesn’t have to be about money.

Oftentimes charities, organizations, causes and foundations need support beyond donations. And that’s what I’m going to try to focus on.

I will be sharing what I’m doing each week; perhaps you, too, will be inspired to give back.

Together we can make a difference.

52 Weeks of Giving: Week 8

In my post about Sethy, I mentioned that he came to us through Defenders of Animals, an animal rights and legislative group based here in Rhode Island.

For over 30 years, the group’s Executive Director, Dennis, has been extremely instrumental in introducing and supporting legislation to protect animals and wildlife, as well as helping homeless animals find homes and assisting in the spaying/neutering of animals.

I did some volunteering with the group a few years ago, but I regret that I haven’t been very involved in the past two years or so.

This week I am sending in my membership check ($25 for the year – a very nominal fee that goes directly to helping animals) and I will pledge to support the group more through volunteer efforts, as well.

There is not enough I can do to thank Defenders of Animals for giving me the gift of Seth.
