Happy 10th Birthday, Taylor!

I can hardly believe that our beautiful granddaughter is 10.  10 years old.  10 years ago today, the most lovely little angel came bouncing into our lives… and on this day 10 years ago, I became Grandma and Barry became Grandpa for the very first time.  There’s something mystical about being a grandparent… something so childlike, almost.   Simple joys.

Where have these 10 years gone?  Just this morning, it seems… we held Taylor for the very first time.  We touched her little cheeks and marveled at this miracle who had arrived so early, early on a lovely Sunday morning.  We kissed her forehead and watched as she pursed her little lips.  We carried her and swaddled her and sang to her as she opened her eyes.  We didn’t know on that day that we didn’t know blue like the blue color of her eyes.  We didn’t know on that morning that we didn’t know joy like the joy of a hug from a grandchild.  We didn’t know on that magical day that 10 years would pass and we would be given the gifts of millions of moments… moments of pure joy and happiness from this little being whom we held so tightly.

10 years ago today, our hearts grew a billion times bigger.  Our hearts grew big enough for all the words and songs and laughter that Taylor would bring to us.  Our hearts grew big enough for every question and wish and want.  Our hearts grew big enough to let in every grain of beach sand, each seashell, every flower pedal, paper weight, pipe-cleaner masterpiece, heartfelt note, every handcrafted birthday and Christmas card and ornament or decoration.

Water droplets came to mean so much more.  Lilacs in spring.  Birthday candles.  Hats.

Reindeer.  Hammocks.  Paper bags.

Piggy toes.  Puppies.  Smiles.  And more smiles.

Swimming pools.  Little brother.  Cousins.  NanaFlo’s jewelry.

Ice cream.  Uggs.  Notebooks filled with notes and drawings.

Everything in the universe is enlightened and heightened and more lovely because Taylor came to us 10 years ago today.

Taylor is our beautiful little poem… our gift from the universe.  We treasure this gift!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEAUTIFUL TAYLOR JANE!  WE LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS COULD EVER SAY… AND THEN MORE!  XOXO!  GRANDMA & GRANDPA COUTO

What a beautiful tribute Sharon to a beautiful little girl. And oh my those eyes are something! Happy Belated Birthday to Taylor – no doubt these moving and touching tributes by her grandmother will be lasting treasures she will share with her own children one day.
