Holiday Trip to Hershey

Every Thanksgiving we head to Pittsburgh to visit my in-laws.  It’s our family tradition and the kids love it!

The only tough thing about going to Pittsburgh is getting there.  It’s a 10-hour drive from Rhode Island.  We drive every year because with 4 boys during the Holiday, we do not want to even attempt busy airports.  That would not be fun.  This is essentially what I hear from the front seat for 10 hours straight… “Mom, I have to go pee!” “Mom, Ben’s hitting me!” “How much longer?” “My butt hurts from sitting!” “My DS is out of battery!” And the list goes on and on…

This year, we did something a little different.  We stopped 1/2 way.

Fortunately for us, Hershey is the 1/2 way point!

My friends over at Hershey set up the most PERFECT day and night for us.  A true family holiday destination for the McClelland family!

I have the fondest memories of heading to Hershey Park as a child.  I remember getting a HUGE Hershey Bar.  I remember going on all the rides.  I remember watching my mom, dad and brothers go on the (what we called it) the super-duper-roller-coaster!  So I was very excited to bring my own family to Hershey and start some memories of our own.  I’ve never been to Hershey during the Holidays, so this was a brand new experience for all of us!

We spent the day at Chocolate World…the boys had an INCREDIBLE DAY!

CHOCOLATE WORLD!!
Seeing an actual house made out of chocolate!
The BOYS were in chocolate heaven!
Getting ready to make my chocolate bar! Stylin in my gear!
Henry just killed me in his little gear!

We spent the day touring Chocolate World with Anna from Hershey.  It was really cool to see and hear about the history of Hershey.  It’s truly an amazing story and I loved the Hershey made it so fun and enjoyable for the boys.

We did Hershey’s Great American Chocolate Tour with the boys (which we went on 3 times!). This is why I personally loved it… This FREE tour begins in a tropical rainforest where cocoa beans grow and are harvested. Then follow their journey across the ocean to America and their delivery to THE SWEETEST PLACE ON EARTH – Hershey, Pennsylvania. The cocoa beans continue through a simulated HERSHEY’S chocolate factory where you’ll see, feel, smell and hear the delicious transformation from bean to milk chocolate. Your fun, informative tour concludes with a FREE HERSHEY’S product sample!

Then we went to Hershey’s Really Big 3D Show. The boys all got to wear cool glasses and enjoy a fun show… Come see the HERSHEY’S Product Characters come to life as never before. Join our resident chocolate historian, Professor D.P. Quigley on a magical journey through HERSHEY’S entertaining history. This stunning, 3D animated musical adventure will have you mesmerized as HERSHEY’S Product Characters virtually jump off the big screen and come to life in our technically advanced 250-seat theater.

Then we did the ultimate for us all… we made our own Chocolate Bars!!!!!

We spent the night at the beautiful hotel, Hershey Lodge.

Gorgeous Hershey Lodge

This place is PERFECT for families! We spent the night eating chocolate, walking around the Lodge and SWIMMING in the gigantic indoor pool! Not to mention, the hotel was decorated from top to bottom for the Holidays and completely got us in the SPIRIT!!!

Thank you so much to Hershey for the amazing time, we had a BLAST!

Oh my gosh that brings back so many great memories because we went there a few times when I was a child. But, I definitely don’t remember being able to make your own chocolate bar! What a great idea to stop there as a 1/2 way point and wonderful memories for your kids 🙂
