The 30/30/30 Project (Day #25)

On October 5, my countdown began: 30 days until my 30th birthday. In honor of this, on each of the 30 days leading up to my birthday I will recount one memory from the past 30 years… either one that has helped define me, one that makes me laugh, one that makes me think, one that encourages me…  or maybe a little of everything. If possible, I will post a photo to go along with the memory.

It’s my 30/30/30 Project: 30 years. 30 memories. 30 days.

Here is my memory for Day #25:

Today we celebrate the birthday of my oldest brother, Keith, so I will dedicate this memory to him.

Nine years ago today, in 2001, Keith turned 30. My sister-in-law, Nicole, planned a surprise party for him at a restuarant in Providence, and she made T-shirts for everyone to wear when he walked in and we yelled, “Surprise!”

Audrey and I, with tons of help from Audrey’s husband, Matt, made Keith a video for his birthday. It included old photos and video from our childhood years. Matt set a lot of it to music. It was equal parts sentimental and hilarious. We had so much fun making it, and we presented it to him at his party, with everyone in attendance watching.

It included the video of him proposing to Nicole and a video of him dancing to a James Taylor song with his daughter, my niece, when she was an infant.

I so wish I could find a copy of it to share here!

It really doesn’t seem like nine years have gone by since then.

My niece wasn’t even 1 year old yet. Now she’s almost 10.

I was just about to turn 21. And now in just a few days I will be 30 myself.

Time certainly does fly, doesn’t it?

Happy Birthday, Keith! I love you so much!

This is Keith and me in 2008 - I couldn't find a photo from his 30th birthday party. 🙁

Can’t believe you are almost done with your 30/30 project! Yes, time does fly by and it seems as if it goes quicker the older you get – darn! What a wonderful thing all of you did for your brother. Wonder what they have in store for your 30th? 😉
