The 30/30/30 Project (Day #23)

On October 5, my countdown began: 30 days until my 30th birthday. In honor of this, on each of the 30 days leading up to my birthday I will recount one memory from the past 30 years… either one that has helped define me, one that makes me laugh, one that makes me think, one that encourages me…  or maybe a little of everything. If possible, I will post a photo to go along with the memory.

It’s my 30/30/30 Project: 30 years. 30 memories. 30 days.

Here is my memory for Day #23:

I went to nursery school right down the street from the high school where both my parents taught. They would drop me off in the morning on their way to work, and pick me up right after. I actually remember the first day of nursery school, or at least parts of it. It was pretty unforgettable.

I was very excited, not only because I was big enough to go to “school” like Audrey, but because I got to wear this purple dress on the first day. I remember driving into the parking lot of the school, at which point my excitement must have been mixed with nerves… because I threw up. All over the car, and all over my purple dress.

Because Mom and Dad’s school was so close by, and because the school was a vocational school and therefore had a cosmetology department, Mom brought me there with her. I remember sitting on a counter while Mom and some of the students cleaned me up. After that I went back to school, I suppose, but I don’t remember that part… I guess the commotion around the first part of my day was most memorable.

I had a wonderful nursery school experience. I loved my teachers and I loved my friends. I also apparently loved a certain candy, as evidenced by this video Dad took of me after nursery school one day!

I love this video because I can hear in Dad’s voice how eager he was for me to acknowledge the little “surprise” he had packed in my school lunch. He’s a great Dad. 🙂

Jane you were such a precious little girl. How lucky you are to have videos like this of yourself to watch now. And you were already thinking of others at such a young age – not surprised!
