Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Donna Karan is Ready for Spring 2011

There are 5 things that standout to me about Donna Karan:

1. She knows how to dress a woman.
2. She knows that clothing can exude a confidence that one may not have in bare skin.
3. She knows that a woman evolves, and so does her style.
4. She knows that each line on a woman’s face means something… and this needs to be celebrated.
5. She knows fashion – inside and out – and her collections reflect who she is NOW.

Fashion Week is fashion week… but for someone like me, there are certain designers I cannot wait to see. Donna Karan is one of them. She’s iconic. And it’s pretty safe for me to say that I would wear anything this woman creates (or created)… ahem! 😉

Donna’s Spring 2011 Collection was devoid of color. I have to be honest, I was expecting to see reds and yellows and purples grace the runway… instead, there were only tans and beiges and browns and creams… and oddly enough, with the absence of color, the collection was as bright as the sun. It was perfection… solid gold.

I’ve always been amazed as to how Donna (after 25 years!) can come back each season and dazzle and inspire. Her collection always seems to be an extension of where she is in her life at the present moment. What I loved about this Spring 2011 line was that it definitely had the mom-wearability factor to it. I kept thinking to myself… “OMG, this is perfect for Lori’s wedding next summer!” or “This is great for an after-hour’s event.” or “This is exactly what I’d wear to this blogging convention.” When thoughts like that run through your mind… and you can see yourself in the clothes, your fashion magic is working. It’s working on overdrive! Since I look at everything with the eyes of a mom… Donna nailed it that piece in her Collection, too. Anyone could wear these clothes… any size, any shape. The layers she works into her clothing makes a woman – regardless if she’s happy with her body or not – feel beautiful. And that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.

Here are my standout favorites from her Spring 2011 Collection:
