When I was in the 7th grade (circa 1991), I made my first tie-dye t-shirt. I was on a school trip at Camp Yawgoog… not happy about having to spend 2 nights in a log cabin with thousands of bugs… but I just remember being so excited about tie-dying a tee. Mine was orange and red… and I thought (after it was done and I was wearing it) that it (and I) was super cool. At that time, tie-dye was “IN” and I was thoroughly trying to impress a boy. Tie-dye was the item of choice for casual dances, school photos and girl’s night out (to mini-golf or the mall). Oh… the innocence of being 13 years old.
Well… it may be 20 years later (and I got a guy)… and tie-dye is back “IN.” You know I didn’t write about this tie-dye phenomenon a couple of months ago when I first saw it on the racks in Target, TJMaxx, GAP, Kohl’s, etc… I kind of thought it was just one of those quick fades – it would be in and out. Well – It’s still out there! But today’s tie-dye for US (a.k.a. moms) doesn’t have to be the kind of tie-dye from our childhood. The styles are very feminine, chic, trendy and (dare I say it) “cool!” Looking like you dyed your own tee is just not the look anymore. There are so many different styles when it comes to tie-dying… there’s still some time left this summer to get some wear!
