There are some questions I get a lot… but this one question I get all the time.

“What might be in my closet that I can work from to look stylish?”

Actually… one of my best friend’s asked me this last week. She’s not a blogger, so I don’t want to “out” who she is… but I did a (solicited) closet haul for her. I had 3 piles for her…

1.) What she should keep pile.
2.) What she should donate pile.
3.) And the… “WHY HAVEN’T YOU BEEN WEARING THIS?” pile.

But it got me thinking… there were so many stylish clothes in her closet that she just wasn’t utilizing. Her response to all my holding up of her clothing with a blank stare was… “I just don’t know what to wear with it!”“

So… this post is dedicated to her. And anyone else who may have that same question and/or thought-process when they peak into their closet. And I am absolutely going to keep doing some postings on this topic because I think it’s so important for women (moms!) to realize that they can work with what they’ve got.

So… without further adieu…

There are 2 colors that go with anything – white and black. I have talked about the LBD (Little Black Dress) and LWD (Little White Dress) many times… but I want to go a little beyond that right now.  We all have a white tee or black pants in our closets (or vice versa!).  Wear them together when in doubt.  You will always establish a classic outfit.  Add a piece of jewelry and/or scarf, and you’re good to go!

I couldn’t get over how many black/white stripes and polka dots my friend had in her closet that she wasn’t using. My advice – take them all out. White and black are your “safe” colors… they make any outfit look chic and classic. These prints never, ever go out of style.  They’re timeless.

Embrace the white and black clothing in your closet. Regardless of current trend… these are always in style and will look classic.
