There are lots of things we love to do outside during the summer months as a family. With 4 boys, we really love to keep them on-the-go, believe me – they have a lot of energy!
We go on walks throughout a local park. They have tons of little dirt paths that you can follow with yellow arrows leading the way. My sons LOVE pretending their on an “Indiana Jones” adventure. We ride bikes. We run and play in our backyard. We play baseball and soccer. We’re walking around the beach. Honestly… saying we’re constantly on the go, is an understatement.
When we’re on-the-go with the kids there’s something essential that they need — shoes. It’s funny, I remember when my oldest son William first started to walk, he hated to wear shoes. I would – quite literally – only get him to walk when he was barefoot. Thank goodness he grew out of that stage… he’s now 5 years old, and it’s difficult to ever get him to just sit on the couch barefoot (which I think is a good thing!).
Recently KEEN Footwear sent William a new pair of shoes from their kids line to try out. They sent him the coolest of pairs to try out… the Newport H2 in green camo.
In pure 5-year old William fashion, his favorite part of getting his new shoes was the color and elastic cord lace. It totally impressed him. And actually… I can’t believe I’m including this, but it’s true – he loved the box they came in because (on the bottom of the box) it taught him about where some animals in the world live and give you some fun facts about that.
As his mom, there were many things that I loved about them. First off… they stay on! There are so many shoes out there for kids that just don’t stay on their feet. It’s refreshing to find a shoe that STAYS ON my son’s feet. It’s funny, one of the reasons my son loves them (purely for the coolness factor) is one of the reasons why I love them… but for a little bit of a different reason. The elastic cord lace and adjustable hook and loop strap allows for William to put them on and take them off all by himself. I love that it makes him feel independent, it’s a wonderful thing for a mom to see. I also love the grippy outsoles… very good for little kids, there’s no slipping and sliding. And since we’re big water people throughout the summer the quick-drying webbing is absolutely perfect!
Not to mention… they sent me a pair, too! The Whisper sandal from KEEN shoes… they are amazing. And in light blue – how “fitting” for a mom of 4 boys…
You have to understand something about my life. When I’m out and about… I’m never, ever sitting. I think that’s a luxury I’ll get to experience in about 15 years! In the meantime, when I’m out with the boys – I need to be quick on my toes – LITERALLY. When we go to the beach. When we go to the park. When we got to our pool club. We when we’re anywhere – I need to be in comfortable shoes. As much as I love my 4-inch heels, they’re just not practical on the baseball field watching William and Alexander play t-ball, while chasing Benjamin and Henry around the field, too. My Whisper’s are comfortable and feel almost cushiony. I also love that my feet can “breath” through the lacing system. They’re easy to get on/off… and I don’t have to worry about them getting wet and dirty because they’re machine washable (thank you to KEEN shoes for this one!)

… all that in a sandal. It can’t get much better than that.
