Fitness and Fashion

On January 1st most of us probably said something like, “I’m going to workout more this year…”  Regardless of why we want to workout – want to feel good, want to lose weight, what to be healthy, want to set an example for our kids, want to fit into our clothing better – it’s always a good thing to keep ourselves moving and in forward motion.

I have blogged about fitness fashion before… but I came across a true fashion-forward brand this past December that I just LOVE!  This is the true essence of fitness and fashion coming together.

Skirt Sports.

‘Cuz working out in a skirt is so much more fun than not!

What I loved immediately about Skirt Sports was that they truly brought fun and fabulousness and femininity to fitness apparel.  You still have the support in your fitness apparel, but you just get to look “cool” and a little more FABULOUS.

So where did this idea for skirts in sports come from?  This is what I thought was very cool –

In September 2004, Nicole DeBoom won Ironman Wisconsin wearing a home-sewn prototype skirt that she had designed. While her winning performance was impressive, what really set the fitness community abuzz was what she was wearing. A skirt? While running in a triathlon? And winning said triathlon? Yes, yes and yes!

AH-HA!  A true idea was born.

This past December Skirt Sports sent me 4 items to try out for my Holiday Gift Guide.  Being an athlete throughout my childhood, I wanted to see if you could really “perform” in the apparel.  Sure… you look good and in-fashion, but can you run, bike, walk and race – comfortably?

Well… YOU CAN!

My favorite item is the Happy Hour Skirt

Built-in full length shorts… it’s perfect for running around – actually, doing whatever.  I especially love the fact that the fabric is Cocona – which means it has excellent moisture management and antimicrobial properties.  Spill something? Easy to wipe up.

So embrace this new year in a new way… with a new you.  Try some fabulous workout wear – it’s fashionably forward.
