A soul-stirring adventure of COOKING with grandchildren…

It seems simple enough… but really is the most happy discovery of humankind – COOKING.  To go one ingredient further, COOKING a family feast is right up there with world harmony. But COOKING a family feast with the help of grandchildren is an incomparable soul-stirring adventure!

On Thanksgiving Day, our children and grandchildren traditionally head out to visit their other sets of in-laws/grandparents in other states across this great country of ours.  Barry and I are usually at our leisure to cook a smaller feast.  But this year, two of our grandchildren pretty much made a Thanksgiving wish-come-true… COOKING with us!

Talk of joy in preparation!  There was Auntie Janie, who needed Taylor’s help with her apple crisp. There was cranberry sauce that needed both Andrew and Taylor to prepare for serving.  There was the special potato masher from my childhood that has waited all these years to smash potatoes with a 4th generation… yes, in the photo is my Mom with Taylor and the Cutco diamond shaped potato masher that my Mom bought when I was a small child.  Oh… the memories of my Dad mashing potatoes for holiday feasts!  Then, of course, Grandpa teaching Taylor the great art and fun of potato mashing a giant pot of potatoes!

When we all sat down to say grace and enjoy our Thanksgiving feast, my heart was filled to the brim with so much to be thankful for.  Yes, it seems simple enough… but this COOKING was a masterpiece of generations!

I love this post Sharon. There is just so much generational love involved. Would you believe I have never used a potato masher. I am spoiled to my mixer, but I want to go find me a potato masher now. You created so many memories for your grandkids by letting them help in the kitchen. The look on Barry’s face is priceless! I can see why your heart is filled to the brim with thankfulness.

My friend Megan who is a teacher at the kids school told me that she asked Taylor how her weekend was – fully expecting to hear all about the swim meet…all Taylor talked about was how she helped make the dinner on Thanksgiving! GREAT, GREAT time.

Sharon, it all sounds wonderful and the pictures tell the whole story. And Rhonda, my dear friend, how could you have never used a potato masher?
