Macy’s is Making a "Fashionable" Difference – The O Bracelet

My friend Sarah from Sevans Strategy is working with Macy’s on their Shop for a Better World Campaign, specifically Path to Peace. When Sarah sent me some information about this campaign, I have to admit… I was speechless. And believe me, that doesn’t happen too often. I truthfully sat at my laptop with tears streaming down my cheeks, truly realizing the power and change this Path to Peace campaign will bring to so many women.

Exclusively sold at Macy’s is The Rwanda Path to Peace Collection.

All the pieces in the Path to Peace Collection are one-of-a-kind works of art that are actually hand woven by the women of Rwanda. The beautiful and awe-inspiring component of Path to Peace is that the sale of these items at Macy’s puts sustainable income into the hands of all the artisans who touched and created the pieces of work to be sold at Macy’s. Pretty incredible, huh?

What captured my interest on the fashion front most were the O Bracelets. I love fashion making a difference. And this difference is the life-changing kind of difference. It’s beyond incredible what Macy’s is doing.

But listen to this… the story gets more amazing.

Each O Bracelet has been around the world – quite literally. It’s the magic and beauty and magnificence of women working together, with the same goal and drive and passion to make the world a better place. The first threads are woven in Rwanda and the last knot is made in New Orleans. The making of these bracelets is giving these artists money to rebuild their lives and change the cycle for generations to come for the better.

I have the Red and Black O Bracelet, The Three of Us Bracelet – it’s made of Red and Black Czech glass beads. The Three of Us Bracelet… this “beautifully woven Rwandan disk features three strong red lines connected to a red center. Each of these lines represents a woman – the Rwandan weaver, the New Orleans beader and you, the wearer – and celebrates the connection women share all over the world.”

There are so many other gorgeous creations, your biggest dilemma will be which one to purchase! Not a bad dilemma. What makes me smile even more, Macy’s is not making a profit from these bracelets. Their committed support to the women of Rwanda is simply enough.

The O Bracelets are pieces of art within themselves… gorgeous wearable art. But it’s the story beyond the bracelet, beyond the art… it comes down to the people. And it makes these bracelets (and all the art sold exclusively at Macy’s in the Path to Peace Collection) even more fashionable. Humanly fashionable.

Thank you so much for this beautiful post. I’m buying a bracelet for all of the women in my family this holiday season. This is an amazing movement to be a part of. By the way, if you talk about this on Twitter, you can add #path2peace hashtag. 🙂
