Happy 4th Birthday Alexander!

I remember in November of 2004 – after the death of one of my husband’s best friend’s, Dimitri (or as we called him “Dimi”) – we decided to have another baby. Celebrating life seemed to be the only thing we could cling on to at that time, and the best way we felt we could truly do that was by having another baby in Dimi’s honor. William was a mere 8 weeks at the time, but that didn’t phase us… we wanted to try for another baby.

On January 30th, 2005 we got the JOYOUS news that I was pregnant! We were absolutely overjoyed and (at the same time) wondering how it would be to have 2 babies 12 months apart. This baby was said to be due on October 8th, 2005.

Well… 2 days after William turned 1, I started to get “those” labor feelings. We went to the hospital to check things out and they told me to come back in the morning, this BABY was ready. We had already found out it was a baby boy, so I remember heading home that afternoon… anxious to meet my precious Alexander the very next day!

At 10:14PM on September 28th, 2005… our Alexander Dimitri entered the world. A beautiful, healthy and perfect addition to our family. There I was – feeling incredibly lucky to be the mom of 2 little boys… and just adoring my 2 little men. (Not knowing what life had right around the corner for me!)

Alexander. There are so many words to describe Alex – or as he likes to be called, “Indy.” Alexander is truly a ball of energy. When I say he’s the happiest little man in the world – he is THE HAPPIEST LITTLE MAN IN THE WORLD. Everything is “good” to him. If I don’t have his favorite chicken fingers, he just looks at me, smiles and says, “It’s OK, Mommy. What else do we have?” From the very beginning he has always been the glass is ALWAYS half-full type child. It’s an incredible way to be. He’s just happy with life. Plain and simple.

Alexander. He loves Indiana Jones more than anything. I mean, to the point where he wears the hat and jacket around the house – all day – everyday. He loves to play XBOX. He loves legos. He loves to take baths. He loves to put his head in the water and (at the same time) scream, “Mommy – look at me!” He loves to hug and be hugged. He loves the color brown. He LOVES to talk on the phone. He loves handsome shirts (collared tees). He loves to brush his teeth. He loves stickers. He loves to dance. Oh man, Alex is a dance machine. It cracks me up to the point where I literally have tears streaming down my cheeks. He knows he’s good, so he keeps going and going and going. He loves his brothers. The sun rises and sets around William, Benjamin and Henry. Even yesterday, we were getting Alex an early birthday present and he asked us if it was OK if we “give something to his brothers, too?” I love that about him, he cares and protects and thinks about them. He loves it when I tickle him. He loves when I kiss his nose and pretend his feet are so stinky that I “pass out.” And he loves milk in an orange sippy cup, with a yellow top.

I was just telling my husband last night that I hope Alex always remains this happy and that he continues to always find delight and enchantment in the everyday things. You would think us driving into Target just to “browse” the toys was the same thing as us pulling into the Disney parking lot. Alex gets GIDDY. He just gets so excited about things, it’s beautiful.

I have always believed in my heart and soul that Alexander was sent to us by our beloved friend Dimi. He just has that sparkle in his eye that I remember so well. I knew Alex was a boy the second I saw 2 lines on the pregnancy test… call it a mother’s intuition. I knew Dimi would send William a brother – something Matt and Dimi both didn’t have, but had it with each other. Seeing my Alexander smile and laugh and play and just “be”… he has enhanced my life in so many ways. And today he turns 4. 4 years old.

I love you my Alexander “Indy”… I love you 10 million. Thank you for choosing me to be your MOMMY! Happy Birthday sweetheart! Let’s go DANCE! 🙂
