I’ll take a 6-pack of cupcakes

I like beer.

I like cupcakes.

I just didn’t know they were interchangeable.  Until last night.

I didn’t get to go to BlogHer this year, but I learned something important about beer and cupcakes by staying home and hanging out with Audrey’s boys.  Late yesterday afternoon, Barry and I took William and Alexander to the beach and then to a great casual seafood restaurant for dinner.  I texted their Dad to make sure it was OK if we stayed out a little later than normal, and he wrote back something about him having canned ravioli with the littlest two guys while we were heading for lobster dinners.  I felt it very necessary to snap a photo of us in front of the restaurant sign… the one with the leprechaun with the frothy mug of beer and the words FRESH LOBSTERS… just to taunt my son-in-law a little bit.  Had to do it.

The restaurant was very busy, so we sat in the bar/lounge area at a high-top table for 4.  The boys LOVED it… swivel chairs, noise, ultra-quick service, cute waitress (yes, even at the tender ages of 3 and 4, the boys recognized “adorable”).

I had a couple of draft beers and a fabulous lobster roll, and Barry had a lobster dinner and his own couple of draft beers.  Barry did magic tricks with quarters and taught the boys how to spin coins.  We let the boys have extra butter on their bread and swivel all they wanted.  You know, stuff you do in a bar.

When we were leaving, Alex looked at the restaurnat sign and asked in his most precious curious voice, “Grandma, why does the leprechaun have a cupcake in his hand?”

I quickly checked out the sign.  The leprechaun was, in fact, holding a frothy mug of beer.

But to a 3-year old, it was a cupcake.

This makes me feel very good about beer.  From now on, I’ll just order cupcakes to my heart’s content.
