This morning in Rhode Island, the sun is brilliantly shining and the sky is bluer than blue.
I think all of this is for our little Henry’s first birthday!
Henry is Audrey and Matt’s 4th of 4 boys, and today it’s official… the boys are 4, 3, 2 and 1.
From the very first moment Audrey and Matt “found out” about this incredible surprise, Henry has delighted everyone he touches. Henry has this very wonderful place in his family where all 3 older brothers adore him. Henry is easy to adore. He looks just like William, with his bright blue eyes. He plays with Alex, making noises like Indiana Jones. He follows Benjamin around like a little puppy, enthralled with whatever Ben is doing at the moment… reading books, playing with trains, coloring, and especially eating. I can see even now that Henry will always be the precious “baby” to this little brood of boys, even when he someday reaches their heights and maybe beyond. Benjamin calls Henry “Baby”… and I find myself calling him Baby, too. I love it.
Henry’s smile is heart melting. He flashes that toothy little smile and you’ll give him the world. His embrace is koala-like. Audrey calls him our “little koala bear”! He loves his Pop-up and just last week figured out how to say it. Pop-up. Pop-up. Pop-up. If he says it enough times, he is convinced that Pop-up will come bounding through any door. When I put him down for a nap at my house, he stands up and calls, “Amma. Amma. Amma” I always rescue him. Always.
Henry is all joy. All boy. All happy and delight rolled into one child.
Henry is the greatest “surprise” I’ve ever experienced in my entire life. And on this most special day, I wish Henry the HAPPIEST FIRST BIRTHDAY EVER, EVER, EVER!

I’m a mom to 4 kids, too, and I can only hope that I convey these sentiments to my children, family and everyone around us, both today as a mother and in the future, as a grandmom.
