Fashion Advice – Maternity Style…

I know many, many, many expecting moms right now! Very exciting!

One of my close friends asked me last week why I never give any fashion advice for expecting moms. She wasn’t too happy…

I felt so bad. I think being pregnant back-to-back-to-back-to-back for 4 years made me gravitate towards the non-maternity styles… but, truth be told… I absolutely LOVE maternity clothes and styles. I had the most fun shopping for my pregnant belly.

So… what (in my opinion) is an absolutely-must-have for pregnant women…

The BellaBand.

Plain and simple.

I first heard about the BellaBand when I was pregnant with my 3rd son Benjamin. One of my girlfriend’s was pregnant at the same time, and she would always look so FASHIONABLE in her cute, little, hip maternity pants and jeans. I was envious… so I asked her where she was getting her pants.

Well… they weren’t maternity jeans – they were her regular jeans that she was holding with her BellaBand.

Genius!

I got one immediately. I wore it throughout my pregnancy. It even helped hold up big maternity pants when my hips couldn’t (and wouldn’t) wedge into my “regular” pants. The BellaBand looked like a tank or a tee layer hanging over my jeans… it never appeared that I was wearing a “Band” to help hold my pants up.

It’s also doubled as a great post-pregnancy accessory. I’m not kidding… I wore it 3-4 months after Ben was born! Funny… when I was putting all my maternity clothes away (and my BellaBand) I ended up finding out 4 days later that I was pregnant again. Yup, my Henry.

With Henry… I used it too. But this time I bought some other colors. Black was what I wore with Benjamin… but with Henry, I got white and nude ones, too.

It’s truly one of those “things” I recommend to EVERY women who is pregnant when she asks me, “So… what’s the one thing I should get?”

It’s my go-to answer.

Mine is put away now… maybe in a few years I’ll get to take it out AGAIN!

*And yes, there are different versions out there!

I like these too, but didn’t want to fork over that much $ for what is essentially a tube of fabric. I just used my cami tanks and tucked in the straps. You can also cut off some tighter tees. If neither of these are for you, I’ve heard that Target carries a cheaper version.

Thank you! I’ve been meaning to email you to ask about maternity fashion because I’m now shopping for some new stuff because all of mine is old 🙂 I love the Bella Band and I also have the Target and Motherhood version. Love it!

I love the BellaBand everyday, even though the last pregnancy was a year ago. It makes sure your bottom is covered no matter how much bending and playing you do all day!

The Target versions are a less costly material, and are much thinner than what you find in a boutique. I find the boutique variety, the original BellaBand to stay in place much better.

Ditto to what Kelly said… I still use the BellaBand (or, the Motherhood Maternity version)… and my youngest is 9 months old.

It is a maternity staple. I will never go without one (or 2 or 3…) again!

I never tried the bella band although I wanted to. I too am not the big maternity clothes shopper. I found myself purchasing non maternity tops and dresses that I was able to wear through my entire pregnancy. I did have to get maternity pants because they felt so good against my skin. I didn’t like where my regular pants or jeans.

“In my day” we didn’t have much other than polyester pants with giant elastic tummies, but they were so very comfortable! And, of course, the TENTS we called maternity tops… but they were incredibly comfortable, too! I think I wondered about fashion, but there weren’t many options anyway!!
