Hebrew National Picnic with a Purpose

Yesterday was my birthday… and I was able to celebrate in the best way possible!

I hosted (along with my mom and sister) a Picnic with a Purpose to benefit Big Sisters of Rhode Island, put together by TheMotherhood.com and Hebrew National, who teamed up to sponsor these Picnics all around the country. We were honored to play host here in Providence.

There was plenty of food (hot dogs highlighting the afternoon, of course), arts and crafts, bubbles, wiffle ball, soccer and football, hula hooping, cookie decorating and lots and lots of laughs and playing… and, best of all, a Purpose. Our guests did not disappoint in bringing their gently used clothing and household items to fund and sustain the Big Sisters mission to enrich the lives of at-risk girls in Rhode Island.

We had a fantastic time. We were a little nervous earlier in the day because the morning greeted us with drizzle, then rain, then drizzle again and voluminous clouds.  But by the time 12:00 noon rolled around, the clouds had blown away and the sun greeted us in the most spectacular way. The perfect beginning for our Picnic.

Jane, Emily (from TheMotherhood.com) and me – Emily came and took photos and just was so awesome helping out. She is an amazing woman and now a great friend!

The Hebrew National hot dogs were delicious… and this is from someone who doesn’t usually eat hot dogs. (Maybe it’s that “no artificial flavors, artificial colors, by-products, or fillers” part!?)

My husband was the grill-master!

Arts and crafts for the kids – they painted mini terra cotta pots and put dirt and flower seeds in them to take home and watch the flowers sprout.

My son William sporting his Hebrew National tee (all the kids got one).

A group shot of many of the kids who came to our Picnic. They were all screaming “Hot Dogs!”

Horses stopped by our Picnic. The kids were so excited!

Sharon, Jennifer from Savor The Thyme), Jane, Emily and me – I “fashionized” everyone’s tee shirt by cutting the collar! 🙂

Just some of the bags of ready to be donated.

The day was just filled with lots of excitement and happiness, for both parents (including Jennifer, Tracy and Michelle), kids and even some fabulous guests with no children (I’m looking at you, Jessica!).  Our party was set to go from 12-3pm, but we didn’t leave the park until 5pm. The best part about our Picnic with a Purpose was that we got to help out and raise awareness for the Big Sisters of RI. This organization has always been near and dear to my heart for the work it does. My mother was a “Big Sister” when she was in college. She always taught my sister and me how important it is to give back to our community… so giving to the Big Sisters was so special for us. Not to mention, families that couldn’t make the Picnic, due to events they already had planned over the holiday weekend, came and dropped items off at my house for donation. Seeing the community come together was absolutely amazing.

Thank you to Hebrew National and to Emily and Cooper from TheMotherhood.com – you ladies are such amazing and exceptional woman. We were honored to be working with you on this. And thank you to everyone who came out and helped us support Big Sisters of RI!
