Interview Attire

With the economy the way it is, many moms are heading back into the workforce. This is something that many “moms” haven’t done in a long time — getting their resumes together, talking with headhunters, scouring the JOB section of the newspaper and setting up interviews.

It comes as no surprise to me that I’ve been getting some emails regarding Interview Attire.

What is appropriate to wear?

ALWAYS GO WITH A SUIT
. I prefer single-breasted. But the beauty about shopping today… there are tons and tons of places for you to find a suit that fits your style and your budget. I remember for my very first job interview at Donna Karan International – fresh out of college – I went to Banana Republic and bought myself a black pant suit. I even remember I went to the Express and bought myself a purple v-neck top to go underneath. I just wanted to add some color to the basic black suit. Even though Donna Karan is a fashion house… I felt like going on the conservative side to show my professionalism – but with the added touch of color, I wanted it to show my playful/creative side.

So make sure you find a suit style that fits your needs – especially for what type of job you’re interviewing for.

Some of my suggestions on places to go:

J.Crew
They have the most gorgeous array of suits for women. I have always been a huge fan of J.Crew suiting. Their suits fit well and the quality is absolutely fabulous.

Lands’ End
Classic suiting at its finest. You get your absolute perfect basic suit.

Lane Bryant
The colors and styles that Lane Bryant has right now are beautiful! I especially love this black skirt suit. It’s elegant with such sophistication!

Chadwicks
I have always been a huge Chadwicks fan. I love the color and depth of their suits.

Banana Republic
I’ve gotta go with Banana Republic, too. Since I got my first suit from them, they hold a special place in my heart! Not to mention that their Suit Collection is gorgeous!

love the article (and those are some of my favorite suit shops as well), would love to hear more on this part “So make sure you find a suit style that fits your needs – especially for what type of job you’re interviewing for.”

Great tips, as usual. I just read a piece in Interview magazine with Calvin Klein interviewing Donna Karan – what an inspirational woman!

And you listed one of my faves – Chadwick’s. I used to order from them all the time.
