Not happy with your stomach? Let me help.

I have been getting tons of emails regarding the TUMMY REGION. Not the most favorite part of the female body for many women… but it’s OK, I have some tips that can help!

Here are 10 tips for concealing your stomach:

1) If you’re a belt wearer, do not wear belts too tight at your waist. The “tight” belt will make your tummy actually appear bigger than it is. We don’t want that, do we ladies!?

2) This is one of my favorite tips to pass along — do not wear fabrics that are tight-fitting. Sometimes women think that the tighter fitting fabrics will work like SPANX. Not the case – quite the contrary. An example of what I’m talking about — lycra. Stay away if you are not happy with your tum-tum-tummy!

3) Empire waisted clothing. Plain and simple. Empire waisted tops and dresses create a slimming and flattering look for anyone not too happy with their stomachs.

4) There’s always the good ol’ – bring some attention to some other assets. Your arms, your legs, your boobs! Yup, it’s definitely a way to bring the attention elsewhere.

5) Do not wear tight fitting pants or skinny jeans, they create the illusion that your stomach looks bigger than it really is. Really, they do. Rule of thumb is to go for wide leg pants or boot-cut with a flair at the bottom.

6) Go for dresses and tops with ruching. Ruching creates a wonderful cut that hides and disguises areas of your stomach/waist/hips that you want hidden. Always a safe look. You’ll notice lots of maternity and post-maternity tops are designed with ruching. Very comfortable.

7) Accessories are always a good bet. Again, bring some attention to another area of your body – beautiful necklaces, dazzling earrings and flowing scarves. Make a statement with accessories near your face.

8 ) Find brands that design clothing for specific bodies. For example, eDressme.com lists dresses for women with specific areas their bodies they need to address – heavy on the bottom, have large bust, have small bust, etc. These types of sites can be extremely helpful when it comes to identifying the best wear for your body type and gives you an idea what you SHOULD be looking for.

9) Go for pants with a flat front. They skim your waist down, giving you a flatter shape.

10) I know it’s a pretty basic tip – and we hear it a lot – but wear darker colors. Blacks, dark browns, navys. They hide hide hide what you don’t want seen! Lifesaving colors! 😉

All good tips. I like empire line dresses too – but my husband says they make me look pregnant! (Yes, he’s charming, I know). Any thoughts?

I won’t wear empire waist clothing because it makes me look pregnant…and I don’t have tummy problems. Are empire waists off-limits unless you have a little extra in the tummy area?

Great tips! I am not that much of a fan of empire waists on me either as I petite and constantly battling a poofy tummy due to health issues. I agree with you Audrey about the accessories! They really make or break an outfit and draw positive attention to your face and upward. A V-neck style I find is slimming!

Now, I have problem with my tummy as I still have bulging tummy from pregnancy. That is why we go for walking and biking to get rid of it. Great tips! It helps!
