It’s time to take them down

I remember when they first went up.

I’d drive through the neighborhood right next to mine on my way home, past the house where a few guys would be working on stringing lights on trees, securing reindeer figures on the lawn, decorating windows and doors. There was a lot of decorating going on.

Sure, it was a little… much for my taste, but hey, the Christmas spirit was there and I enjoyed watching their progress as the weeks went on.

The first time I drove by the house at night with all the decorations on in FULL FORCE, I was nearly (with my apologies to Bruce Springsteen) blinded by the light.

OK, again, the decorations were not exactly my taste, but the house definitely, without a doubt, looked FESTIVE. And if that made them happy, that was cool with me.

All I had done in terms of holiday decorating was put my tree up in the house – no outside decorations – so it was nice to get my (major) fix of holiday spirit driving by their house each night.

That is, when it was actually during the holiday season.

We’re coming up on March now, right? That means we’re over 9 weeks past Christmas and at least 7 weeks past an acceptable amount of time for leaving decorations up (as I know some people wait until Little Christmas to take them down).

It’s time to part with the Christmas decorations, people.

Because we’re not just talking about a wreath on a door or a few white lights strung around a tree. We’re talking full-fledged Christmas Vacation stuff going on here.

Is there such thing as a holiday decorations intervention? If so, paging A&E now!

I know the house! I just keep thinking that maybe a loved one is away… in the service, hospitalized… someone who LOVES Christmas and could not be home this year… just something that would make the home owner actually walk by all that Christmas stuff each day as we head into spring! I’m just waiting for the crocuses and tulips to be bulging through, joining the festivities!

This is exactly why I take decorations down before the New Year – I want to start fresh and I know if I don’t do it then, it will never happen 🙂

I’m one of those people who loves looking at those over the top Christmas decorations. But even I know it’s long past time to take them down. It’s almost spring…..

I totally agree. There should be fines given when decorations are still up past the appropriate time – March – come on. I think people get lazy and figure they can leave up to next year and be done.

Oh yeah that just qualifies as lazy I would say. Really there needs to be a show for this kind of person because you know there would be plenty of people from all over the place who would fit the bill. Good observation there!
