Fashion Friendly?

Last night, one of my girlfriends called me up and told me she finally sat down and read/watched the last #38 Days of my Fashion Advice for Moms.

This is a girl I have known my entire life. We’ve gone through fashion phases together – the “gotta have Guess Jeans!”, the “I need a Benetton Rugby”, the “Sebago” and “Samba” shoe phase, the tapered jeans phase, the rolled jeans phase, the CVS “Pink Foil” lipstick phase, the HAIRSPRAY phase, the vest phase… I mean, you name it… we went through it together. We both have always loved, loved, loved fashion and styles and Seventeen Magazine…

But here’s our BIG difference as 30-something year old women.

She’s doesn’t have any children. So she reads my blog with a half smile because – well, she DOES NOT fall into the category (yet!) of needing Fashion Advice for Moms. But she gets where I am coming from… completely. We’ve seen some of our good “mom friends” sort of “become lost” in the last few years. I use that term from their own mouths. The need and yearning for good and stylish outfits has been outweighed by the daily/duties/callings of being mothers and wives.

One of my friends had me belly-laughing the other night when she said to me, “I mean, Audrey… who ever thought I would be the one wearing a Christmas sweater? Really, a Christmas sweater?”

So as my girlfriend with no kids (yet!) read my blogs – she called to ask me one question.

“OK, Miss Audrey… to Croc or not to Croc?

Now… before yesterday I would have told you NO. WAY. NO – bold, capitalized, neon-ed… you name it!

But… I did something I love to do. I went shopping.. for a pair of Crocs. It’s not fair to make a judgment call about something you’ve never tried on – right!?

So I went to REI and I tried some on.

And… Oh. My. GOD. They are like slippers! I loved them! They may not be the coolest looking shoes my feet have ever seen… but they were AWESOME! And I loved them!

So yes! A big YES to Crocs

If you Croc… you go, mama (or not-mama-yet!).!

If you don’t… you gotta try some on!

**Ladies… Ladies… I never said I wear them OUT… ;)**
A future post – some items are just meant to be worn for family (immediate) only…

Audrey, I’m not a mom either but I love following your fashion advice. I just don’t have the maternity jeans!

I love them on my kids – they’re super cute and practical in Florida.

I swore I’d never own a pair either, until I tried on a friends. I broke down and bought a pair this past summer. I DO NOT, however wear them in public, and I never ever will. I only wear them around the house and around the yard. I’m a “country girl” as we live on 5 acres and we are outdoors a lot. They are great in the summer to just quickly slip on when you need to run outside.

But again–I do not wear them in public…
they look so sloppy, however I love them on my son!

Just because my plaid pajama bottoms are comfy does not mean I wear them out in public. Please no Audrey!! 🙂

too funny. We got my son some ‘real tree’ crocs over Christmas and he insisted on wearing them to church this morning. With his slacks & Polo shirt (he also insisted on wearing his cowboy belt, even though it didn’t fit through the beltloops). So, I’m with you, they’re cute on a 2 year old (and he can get them on by himself, so he has 2 pairs) but they’re not in the Clothes That Make Me Feel Cute category.

I think what you are doing is really helpful for moms. You are right, when someone is not in a stage yet of motherhood, they will not understand how dramatic the change is going to be than just being a single. Some moms really do get lost and some just let go of themselves and don’t have much time to dress up or at least looking presentable. You will never understand fully how it is to be a mom not until you become one.

Now about crocs, I never had one or nor I will buy them. hehehe.. not that I hate it, but I just don’t want to wear them nor at home. hehehe.. 🙂 Sorry!

Ok, I admit I’ve never tried them but it’s only because I can’t imagine ever sporting a pair of plastic shoes intended for gardening. I cringed when my MIL brought a pair for Alex, and was secretly thrilled when she outgrew them (but she wasn’t – that says something, right?)

I love my Crocs! Call me a dork if you want, but for me comfort trumps fashion. I’m chasing 15 preschoolers around all morning, and frankly in cute boots or heals it just doesn’t work. I mostly wear my Land’s End all weather mules, or my Crocs out in public, and I don’t care if people think I look dumb. I love ’em.

I’m pregnant and I have wide feet anyway – you’d better believe that the furry crocs are the best thing ever! They are slip-on (totally necessary at 8+ months), warm, and my huge, fat feet actually fit in them.

I’m from Boulder so I see Crocs ALL THE TIME! Bright orange, green, purple, tan, pink, yellow, you know it. I broke down and bought a pair awhile back and I love them! After working all day in high heels, it’s so nice to slip into them when I get home. Now, I do not however wear them out in public. They are strictly house shoes.

For people who have never tried Crocs before, I suggest trying on a pair at the store. You don’t have to buy them. Just put a pair on and walk around a bit. Then maybe you’ll see why people love them so much.
