TRI – WHAT!?

I am participating in my very first triathlon this morning.

I’m nervous. I’m excited. I’m everything right now.

This was one of my New Year Resolutions – take care of myself health-wise. And so, to kick off this NEW YEAR – I’m heading to the YMCA to do a mini-triathlon with my husband.

I was a competitive swimmer from the time I was 5 years old – all the way through my freshman year of college.

I haven’t touched the water in 15 years. I think that’s what I’m most nervous about. But… here I go. Attempting something new and very, very different!

Wish me luck!

(Day #4 of Mom Fashion Advice – If your bathing suit looks like something your grandmother would have worn when you were a teenager – THROW IT OUT! And if your one-piece bathing suits has frills or beads or a skirt… attached to it – THROW IT OUT, too! Just some easy easy advice on a Sunday morning… as I’m heading to the pool in a blue swirl-ish design suit… it’s not my favorite, but it will do.)

**Updated –

Finished the triathlon!  First female finisher!  Came in 4th overall.  I wanted to beat my husband… no luck this time around.  With my swimming background I was able to get a good lead, but he totally got me on the bike… and a little bit on the run!  Next time, maybe!

ALSO…

I wanted to answer Christy.  She mentioned she had some “extra skin hanging around the tummy area” due to  hard pregnancies… she asked what I would suggest in terms of a swimming suit without a skirt that can hide that (in her words!!!) “disgusting mess.”

As a mom of 4… I totally know what you mean about the extra skin right there in the tummy area.  I swear… it seems like it never goes down.  One of my close friends had this same problem this summer.  She refused to go to the beach with a swimsuit.  So one night we scoured the internet for her… we came across SwimsuitsForAll.com.  This is a fabulous site for helping women with any problem area they are trying to cover up and disguise… hips, tummy, rear, thighs, large bust and (my problem) small bust!  Check the links out, I think you’ll find some really beautiful options.

Also!  It terms of the skirt… I completely take it back.  While refreshing myself at SwimsuitsForAll.com there are some gorgeous options with skirts!  Just make sure you feel good and that your suit has a great fit for your body.  Know your body type.  With my oh-so-small-bust, I know I have limited option! 🙂

But what if your tummy never recovered from having three 10 pound boys (I am NOT kidding! My babies were all 10 pounds and between 21-23 inches at birth!!) I have some extra skin hanging around in the tummy area due to hard pregnancies. Any suggestions for a swimsuit without a skirt that will hide that disgusting mess? I am terrified to give up the skirt!

I checked out the website you recommended and I am very pleased at what I see, and found the information very helpful. I am “older” and although not ultra-conservative, I am aware of my “flabby” areas. I love the high necks and the great prints because they look stylish but not matronly. These suits make me actually look forward to summer. I love the beach! Thanks.

good for you Audrey! Um, isn’t it COLD there?! I was on our triathlon team in college and oh what fun I had! I loved it (all except the swimming part 🙂 Sorry I missed you when I was home over the holidays. Being snowed in kind of changed all our plans around. Maybe next time 🙂

Congratulations on your triathlon – that is admirable! I would also like to suggest Athleta.com as a good source for really cute swimsuits that have decent coverage and stay put when you are moving. Looking forward to more tips!

    Yay, for you!!!
I have always LOVED swimsuit season… except with the last pregnancy when I was at the “is she fat or pregnant stage?” This year I should be ready with prayer and pilates!

I’m glad you took back your skirt advice. I swear by the swim mini. It does wonders for me. However, it does have to be just the right skirt so it doesn’t look frumpy. Love Lands End for these.

Wow! Your race results are awesome. And a little inspiring. If a mom of 4 can find time to exercise maybe I can too. Of course I’ll wait to start any major training until after the little one is born.
