8 years ago this morning, our beautiful granddaughter, Taylor Jane, came into our world. She is our first grandchild, and our world was forever changed on that day. We had known about this little miracle since the previous April… and I remember thinking then, “We must wait all the way ’til January!”
But wait we did. Through the rest of spring, past summer, into the fall… and finally winter. Now I cannot even imagine a time when Taylor wasn’t part of our lives. I remember the first time I saw her, with her dark hair… and lots of it. She had perfect eyebrows… none of us had ever seen more perfectly shaped eyebrows. She was beautiful. And now, 8 years later, Taylor is still beautiful…. and so much more.
If I had to put a color to Taylor, I wouldn’t be able to. She is pink in her love of babies. She is white in her love of snow and her talents on the ski slopes. She is blue in her love of the water and her incredible swimming skills… and her eyes are brilliant blue. She is yellow in her warmth and her true gifts of the spirit. She is lilac in her love of flowers and gardens and how she loves to plan where everything will go. She is red in her passions… reading, learning, discovering, inquiring. She is green in her quest for adventure… her journey is so very important to her. And she is black in her astounding common sense and knowledge and wisdom.
Taylor is our little rainbow. She is every color… deep and rich and profound.
And she is our pot of gold, too!

Happy 8th birthday princess Taylor Jane. Would you believe my first grandchild has a birthday next month and he will also be 8 years old. I’m so glad Taylor had such a special 8th birthday! She is our little sweetheart. I just love her so much and am honored to have my name be her middle name. I loved talking to her on the phone. She was most excited about telling me about her birthday dessert at Outback. Ahh… a girl after my own heart.
