4 hours of what?

My dear, wonderful, fabulously funny friend, Beth at I Should Be Folding Laundry, posed an interesting query yesterday… if you had 4 hours of pretty much everything else in your world completely done (you know, like laundry), what would you do with this time? (OK. I know this is as preposterous as, what would you do with your $300 ga-zillion lottery winnings.) But an interesting fantasy, none-the-less.

I commented to Beth that I would, basically, work in my garden… and perhaps even try to find that elusive time today. I didn’t. Work in my garden, that is. Mostly, because… well, my summer gardening project never happened. I still need to plant hydrangeas atop my stone wall to bring out the glorious colors and textures of the wall. I still need to plant a row of rose of sharons along the back fence. Hello. I need a whole new fence. I need my raspberries and blueberries and pumpkins. I need a large and lovely dogwood in the center of my yard, surrounded with day lilies and tiger lilies and hostas. And my antique summer bench, the one still in my cellar from when we moved here 3 years ago. I need my beautiful lawn statues and gazing balls and ornaments and wind chimes…

And there’s always the fact that I am still bitter at not having been chosen as a final contestant in the DIY lawn make-over. Because I am not adorable, hot, hunky and young. And a guy.

So, what did I do today? With the 4 minutes that I dared carve out for myself.

See for yourself.

Maybe it’s the distraction of the 300 loads of laundry taunting me… just waiting to be folded.

That looks like an amazing way to spend four minutes. I’m jealous of the sunshine, as we’re having nothing but rain in Indiana!
Your backyard looks really lovely already, but I understand the constant work in progress that gardening is. We’re constantly doing new things and trying to improve bit by bit each other, but we never quite get it all done.

I ABSOLUTELY love what you did with your four minutes. Simply divine!

and I’m bitter, too, that you didn’t win the makeover.

Love it. Too bad it’s raining here or I might do that this very second.

Love it, Sharon! Brilliant idea. I am still wishing for those four hours. Curse Beth for introducing that idea to my weary brain and now I can’t stop dreaming about it!

I miss having gardens. If I had 4 hours to myself I’d come help you in the garden.

PS – Thank goodness for really old buildings with no laundry service in them… we pay to have it done. Totally NYC of us. 🙂

What a hoot! I love how you think! I hate weeding so I hired a Kindergarten teacher who comes during the summer and a few weekends during fall and pulls those weeds and she is in heaven. She loves it and now pulls weeds for my sister- in- law, my mother- in- law and my husband’s business!! I use that extra time to fold my laundry! 🙂

I am making 4 hours for myself on Friday. Does it count if you are making it, even though you have laundry and dishes. I am sitting and reading, and napping. I am forcing myself to not do anything else for 4 hours tomorrow. Ok -maybe like 2 but still – -WILL DO IT

First question – am I going to have to justify how I spent this time to anyone?

    Because if not…

I’d sit in my room with ice cream and pop and watch the rest of my Sex and the City DVDs.
