It’s been said that sports do not build character, but reveal it.
Yesterday afternoon, on a brilliant New England September Sunday, I watched my beautiful 7-year old granddaughter play her first soccer game of the season.
She ran.
She hustled.
She fell. And got up again.
She scored her first goal ever.
I was mesmerized by her strength and skills and fortitude.
But, during the game, when she knelt down to tie the cleat of a fellow player…
… the power of her character was revealed. And I couldn’t have been more proud.
I love you, Taylor. I love you for your strength, your brilliance, your kindness, your humor, your precious beauty.
And I love you for your character.
She truly is something else. My precious Taylor! I am so proud of her too.
Okay, is everyone trying to make me cry today? lol What a post!
That is just too sweet!
Go girl power.
Oh Sharon, I am sobbing as I sit at my desk at work while reading this. I am glad no one is around. I feel you, my fellow grandma. She is beautiful and so thoughtful to take care of another player like that. I look forward to the day I can sit and watch my grand-child play in a sport, if they choose to do so. We do cherish our grandchildren, don’t we? To think that this week, I could be holding my new little grand-daughter, Ivy. Makes life worth living!
Great story Sharon. And I too am proud of and love that little girl!

This is so true with sports (I’ve seen quite a bit of character while watching hubby’s softball games!!) And in response to my Mom’s comment above… hubby just said he plans to put Noah & Carter on a baseball team next year. I just know Mimi will be at every game!

Thanks for posting this! It was such a simple gesture, but spoke volumes. THANKS for appreciating every inch of her! I showed her when she got home from school and although I had to explain what “character” meant, she loved seeing the photos and the wonderful words you had for her!
Love, Nik
What a great post and what a special little girl. I can see why you are so proud.
Wow. That truly shows great character. That’s one of the sweetest things I have ever seen
