Chelo’s Restaurant – Banana Berry Pie

By the time it hits mid-July, I can sometimes get into that mid-summer funk. That’s right. I do. I’m not afraid to admit it.  You know what I mean? I start to realize that in just over a month, summer will be over, and it’ll be back to shorter days, bulkier wardrobes – and no tan. (The horror!) But then I remember that it isn’t even until mid-July that something I totally equate with summer is available. Chelo’s Restaurant – Banana Berry Pie – is my jam. That’s right. It’s my absolute jam. It’s a Rhode Island tradition.

Chelo’s Restaurant – Banana Berry Pie

Here in Rhode Island we have Chelo’s Restaurants. And every summer they put their famous Banana Berry Pie on the menu. Now, let me preface this by telling you that I am a chocolate girl all the way. I live and breath chocolate. I could live on chocolate alone. CHOCOLATE RULES! I think you get the point.

But there is something about the juicy deliciousness of the blueberries and strawberries… the bananas mixed into the creamy banana mousse… the flaky pie crust… the whipped cream on top…

Chelo's Restaurant

Oh yes, I indulged in my favorite summer treat last night.

It was, indeed, a mid-summer night’s dream.

What’s your favorite summer treat? As I got to Chelo’s Restaurant and stock up on my Banana Berry Pie – what do you do? What’s your Chelo’s Restaurant guilt pleasure wherever you are in the world? Love to know!

Let me know what you think!!

How are you celebrating summer?

How are you doing and what are you doing with your summer?

If you’ve ever seen a Banana Berry Pie – you will know that it’s something that everyone loves here! Make sure you head to a Chelo’s if you’re in Rhode Island. You will thank me a million times over after you take ONE bite of your dessert!

Oh, Janie! When you called last night to say that “THE PIE” is now available, I almost drove off the highway. I was driving Audrey’s car, with her and all 4 boys in it… it was just past 8:00 pm and we had just left the pool… so they were all fussing to some degree… but Audrey was on the phone in a second to oder 2 pieces for take-out. When I ripped into the Post Road Chelo’s at about 300 mph, Audrey tear-assed into the lobby with nothing on but a bathing suit and a teeny tiny skirt. I hopped into the back of the van to soothe the kiddies and to try to explain the significance of “THE PIE” that only appears in mid-July and is gone in the wink of an eye! They didn’t get it.

But we did! 2 magnificent, mouth-watering masterpieces! Audrey rushed home to put hers in her refrigerator (she loves it ice cold). I ripped mine open as I opened my back door.

    Oh… the rush.

    Thanks for the heads up!

    Love ya!

Since you’re a chocolate kinda girl, now I know what to send you! The Island has a place called “The Chocolate Works” and they made some pretty yummy chocolate! Any preferences? Fave chocolates? Or better yet, is there anything you DON’T like in your chocolate?

Your mom’s comment cracked me up! What an adventure. However, it’s complete torture for all of us out here who will probably never get our hands on one of those, you realize. More reason for that Mom Generations Retreat…
