Large chocolate with chocolate jimmies

My husband is good.

Really good.

I mean, he-knows-exactly-how-I-want-my-ice-cream good.

Tonight, we had a lot going on. A lot of this and a lot of that. And here in New England, it is about 9000 degrees tonight, with 1000% humidity.

So on our way home from the supermarket, I dreamed aloud of enjoying the perfect summer evening ice-cream treat.

I don’t crave ice-cream all that often, but when I do… well, it’s an “I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice-cream. But I scream louder.”

But as hot and humid nights go in New England, our local ice-cream shop had about 10,000,000 people in line. It was like Disney World. Or a Hannah Montana concert.

So we drove right on by. I swear I could smell the ice-cream wafting in the air as we passed.

As I began to unpack the groceries, my husband remembered that he needed to gas up his truck. So off he went. A while later, as I was getting ready to pour my poor excuse for an ice-cream substitute, Grape Nuts, into a bowl, my husband returned.

He held something behind his back.

Oh. My. God. He hadn’t needed gas. He had gone back out to stand in that line of millions of people just to get me my ice-cream treat.

And he got it perfect. A large hard chocolate ice-cream with chocolate jimmies in a cup, with a sugar cone on top.

I screamed. I screamed, “I love you!”

I ate. I enjoyed. And I wondered how many husbands out there know, as in KNOW, exactly what size, flavor, topping(s) and specifics his wife loves in her ice-cream treat. And if he doesn’t, now is the time to let him know!

Thanks, Honey. I love you! And by the way, had the circumstances been reversed, I would have ordered you a kiddie hard coffee ice-cream in a sugar cone. Am I right?

Sharon – Barry has taught Keith well. Yesterday I went to Whole Foods and picked up lunch for he and I. After I heated it up in the microwave in his office, the carton slipped out of my hand and dumped all over his floor. I was not happy as they had my favorite chicken and asian pasta yesterday! But I had some snack food at my desk and I told him I was going to be just fine to wait for dinner – it was after 1 anyway. About 5 minutes later there was a phone call for him and I couldn’t find him anywhere… I took a message. Twenty minutes after my lunch was dumped on his floor, he came walking back into the office with exactly the same thing I had ordered at the market. He never said a word…he just did it. What a guy. And, as you know, he learned from the best…his Dad, who did the same for you last night. We are a lucky bunch aren’t we???

    Love, Nik

Hold on to him tight or some lady may try to steal him! I bet he also ran out to satisfy all your pregnancy cravings too, sweet man.

I love me some ice cream, too, but reaaalllly crave it when I’m pregnant. During my last pregnancy, I polished off about 1 pint per week of Ben and Jerry’s “Pistachio Pistachio”, “Half Baked” or “Chubby Hubby”. All very different, all very good. Depends on the mood of the specific day.

Shortly after finding out that we were pregnant with number 2, I opened the freezer to find a collection of my Ben and Jerry favorites. Seems the hubby had just been “preparing” himself for those “last minute” runs to the convenience store when the “I want some ice cream” cravings kicked in.

Maybe it’s because we now live about 8 miles away from the nearest store…whereas when we were pregnant with #1, we were walking distance to a Dairy Queen, and he wanted to save himself some time! Who knows. Either way, I was impressed and am thoroughly satisfied!!

I LOVE that you call them jimmies rather than sprinkles! That word brings back so many good memories of growing up!
