I offer no apologies. That’s right. Cute Fanny Packs are here and they’re here to stay (at least for me).
I wore a fanny pack this morning to my granddaughter’s swim meet. Nobody looked, LOL!
Not that this decision hasn’t given my children something to revel in for the rest of eternity…
This is how it began.
Cute Fanny Packs Story
It is hot here in New England today. 90-some odd degree hot. I was excitedly getting ready to head to the swim meet (I say excitedly because both Audrey and Jane were competitive swimmers for years, and my granddaughter Taylor is not only following in her aunts’ foot-kicks, she is swimming for the very same club).
I grabbed my pocketbook and realized that with taking photos and helping with swim goggles and cheering… not to mention that at a swim meet, I would need nothing but my camera, phone and SPF 50 lip block… well, my pocketbook was just too cumbersome.
So I did the unthinkable. I dug through my closet until I found my “vintage” fanny pack. So there.
Well, Jane saw it as we were getting into my car. “What the hell is that?” she asked.
Hahahahahhhahhahahahha.
“Yes, it’s my old fanny pack. And I’m wearing it.” Period.
She laughed. And laughed. And laughed.
When we arrived at the pool, the first thing my son did was point to my fanny pack and say, “When are you going to embroider your initials on it.”
Hahahhahahhahahhahhahaha.
My daughter-in-law came to my rescue by telling how she bought one during a recent trip to Disney World. You know, for convenience. Light travel. Easy access to your things. Thanks Nicole, but that did nothing to stop Jane and Keith.
Then Audrey walked into the pool area with all 4 boys. One would think that the responsibility and focus of having 4 boys at a pool club would diminish her fashion sense a teeny, teeny bit. But no. She spotted the fanny pack from a half mile away. When she got close, there were no hellos. Just, “Why are you wearing that?”

So OK. My kids all had a good laugh at Mom’s expense. That’s what kids are for, right?
Now I’m just waiting for the news to head on down to Adam, who could not make it to Taylor’s meet. Hey, there’s another swim meet next Tuesday.
And yes, I will be wearing my fanny pack. Perhaps with my initials.

(And props to my hubby, who defended me and my fashion decision of my cute fanny packs all-the-way… but decidedly does not want one for himself!)

But, I really love the expression on your face. It’s like “I’m wearing this fanny pack and I don’t care what anyone thinks…so there!” That’s the girl that I fell in love with 30 plus years ago and continue to be mesmerized by.

Honey tried to bring a fanny pack to Disney. We may be a family of geeks but I had to draw the line. Instead I sported a cute little backpack purse. I was not going to have tons of vacation pictures with him wearing a royal blue fanny pack.

My delayed respose is only because I didn’t believe the hype until I saw the picture! I’m tempted to bring back the botty hugger shorts I used to roll around in back in the day and knee high gym socks…no I’m not really. Next thing I know there’ll be a “permed bangs” sighting in the family!!!

Hilarious! As a kid, I remember my mom wearing a fanny pack on our yearly amusement park trip. Other than that, it remained packed away in her closet. And as much as I cringed at it, that didn’t stop me from loving the crackers and handiwipes she’d have packed away in it.

Those things are great! I’m too heave to feel comfortable in one since they would accentuate parts I don’t want accentuated! I do think they are very convenient! Yours is cute. Its not too bulky! Kind of blends in!
LOL! What a great post, Sharon! BTW, I’m not laughing at the fanny pack! I’m laughing at your kids’ reactions to it! Too funny! Of course kids are going to say, “Why are you wearing that???” I still do that to my Mom whenever I see her wearing things that look a bit questionable! BUT, the fanny pack really is practical! Yay for you for deciding to go with practicality! Who knows…maybe you might just bring the fanny pack back into fashion! 😉
