In Case of Emergency with Baby MEDBASICS
December 12, 2008
I'm not trying to scare you, but would you know what to do if your child was choking? Or needed CPR?
Or was burned? Or got into a poisonous substance?
Or had a really high fever? Or was bleeding?
I have to be honest; in some of those situations, neither my husband nor I would know what to do.
At least not the correct way.
You see, just recently our son Benjamin fell off the couch and bumped his head on the coffee table. He immediately got a huge bump. I was in a panic state. Does he have a concussion? What should I be looking for? I knew ice would help the bump, and it did. I ended up calling my doctor and got everything checked out.
It scared me. A bump on the head is one thing. But what about other emergencies? What would I do? Or my husband?
So we did a little research and got Baby MEDBASICS.
This comprehensive, "what-to-do" guide is the ingenious creation of husband-and-wife team Luke Hermann MD and Tara Summers Hermann RN.
Parents of 2 beautiful little boys, they have put together an easy guide for parents in helping to get through emergencies.
We all know how quickly things need to be done when it comes to helping your child out of danger. Baby MEDBASICS shows you what to do if you ever find yourself in a scary situation.
Choking. CPR. Fevers. Bleeding. Burns. Poison. And basic safety. All of this is covered.
I love it because the information is easy to read, with very clear illustrations.
The language. The colors. The organization of the book. Everything is laid out in such a great manner. It truly helps you understand what is going on and what you need to do.
Baby MEDBASICS comes in 2 sizes: a Home Pack (7" x 9") and a Travel Pack (5" x 6"). The Home Pack is perfect to put somewhere in your house. We have ours in our kitchen. The Travel Pack comes with me. I have it in my pocketbook. And it's small enough that it doesn't take up too much room.
My parents babysit quite a bit, and I feel safe knowing that this guide is in my house, and can be grabbed quickly if needed.
No one ever looks forward to an emergency. But being prepared for one is just plain smart.
