As an Auntie to 10, soon-to-be 11, with no kids of my own, I take great pleasure in spoiling my nieces and nephews a bit. I love hearing about all the “kid stuff” - gadgets, toys, products - that they covet, and then surprising them with these gifts.
My siblings know that I enjoy doing this. They also know that I will drop anything for my nieces and nephews. They mean the world to me… and at a moment’s notice, if they need me, I will be there.
I’m an Auntie; that’s my job, right?
Actually, there’s a term for this. I’m a PANK - Professional Aunt, No Kids. It’s a term coined by Melanie Notkin.
And just this week, Melanie launched SavvyAuntie.com, the first resource and online community for cool aunts, great aunts, godmothers and all women who love kids. The site, which is free to join, is the only one to provide expertise designed specifically for Aunts, gifts for nieces and nephews, activities and a community where Aunts can connect and share their experiences.
“The image of ‘Woman’ as a mom with 2.1 kids is radically changing,” says Melanie. “It’s estimated that today, non-moms represent 50% of American women, and that number continues to grow.
“PANK is the new pink; it’s the new, modern segment of women finally getting the attention it deserves.”
As any Smart Mama knows, it takes a village. And PANKS are more than happy to help head up the community.
And now there’s a place for us to share. So visit SavvyAuntie.com - and while you’re at it, mama, thank a PANK today!

Congrats to Melanie on her fantastic brand new website. Love it. It is amazing and appears to be marketing at it’s best as she has found a true niche of professional aunties! Love it and her. So cool that you got to meet and attend the party!
