A February Funk

February 18th, 2008 · 16 Comments · New England Mamas, husbands, life, summer, work-at-home

Corbin_park_trees_and_fogOK, February. I get it.

You suck.

You’re cold, rainy, windy, ugly, vile and mean.

And that’s on a good day.

I’m getting really tired of looking out my bedroom window every morning to be greeted with an unfriendly gray cloud cover.

Of having to wear 5 layers when I go outside just to be mildly comfortable.

Of hearing the weatherpeople say that we’re still going to have to wait awhile for the Spring weather (thanks for the reminder, guys).

Of dreading getting out of the shower to face the frigid air in the nude.

Of the bare trees.

I need the warm weather back.

The smell of grass being cut.

The desire to take a walk outside and not having to add one layer of clothing.

The sound of the lawn sprinklers.

The sight of families at the park.

There’s nothing like New England in the Spring and Summer. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.

I love living by the ocean. Spending the day at the beach. Being able to drive for three hours and hit four different states (the three-hour drive from Providence to Portland takes you through RI, MA, NH and ME. Strolling through the quaint New England towns.

I definitely don’t want to leave my home state. But I’m clearly one of those people who needs to live in Florida from January to April.

My job would allow me to telecommute like that. But my husband’s teaching job may make it a little tricky.

OK, there goes that dream.

I guess Plan B would be one of those Seasonal Affective Disorder light therapy lamps.

Daylighth

On second thought, that seems a little weird.

I think I’ll just suck it up for 6 more weeks!

- Jane

I agree. That’s one reason I took advantage of the “warmer” weather Friday and took the girls (who had no school that day) to RWZ. I just had to get out and what better palce to visit than the zoo?

i am so with you…february has always been my least favorite month, and with all the severe snowstorms we have had here lately, i am liking it less and less…i can’t wait for spring…our summers here are so darn hot and i know in a few short months i will be complaining about that(especially being pregnant) but for now, i am so over winter…

I’ll trade you for the next 6 weeks….yes I live in Southern CA. It has gone from 60- the 80’s. Spring is in bloom but I LOVE the seasons and I LOVE the gloomy picture. above. We just don’t have seasons..the grass is always greener at least for 6 weeks. I have to layer to go walking on the beach…does that count? Hang in there.

Sorry for your miserable weather! I could lie and say I agree with Blessed Next and wish for the seasons - but it is 80 degrees here today and I’m not craving seasons at all!

I still love living in N.W. Indiana…snow and all. I couldn’t survive in a hot climate all year long. I know, I am wierd. Actually, Fall is the best time of year.
Are those trees outside your bedroom window?

Great post, Jane! I can’t complain about Feb being gloomy and gray here. Here it’s just cold! LOL! The sun is out, the sky is blue with wispy white clouds…and we still have a bit of snow!!! I don’t mind the snow. It’s really pretty. It’s just the cold that I don’t like!

BTW, for some reason I have been seeing lots of ads for New England being a great travel destination. One of these days we’ll make it over there. Those New England towns sure look quaint. What a lovely place to one day visit!

While I don’t mind winter, necessarily, I am soooo ready for spring to be here.

    Bring on the flowers!
