Happy Birthday, Henry!

June 17th, 2009 · 5 Comments · Being an Auntie, celebrations, love, memories, nieces/nephews

My little nephew Henry, who has grown from this tiny little thing, in his Auntie Janie’s arms…

into a happy, joyous bundle of love…

turns one year old today.
It seems like just yesterday I was tweeting about and excitedly announcing his arrival.
But yesterday I was actually at the 140 Characters Conference in NYC with Audrey, where the [...]

Family dinners, then and now

May 31st, 2009 · 5 Comments · Being an Auntie, celebrations, food, love, memories, nieces/nephews, parents, sisters

Last night my mom, dad, Audrey and I went out to dinner to celebrate Audrey’s 31st birthday. Yes, her birthday was a week earlier, on May 23, but it fell on Memorial Day weekend, and it was a pretty jam-packed weekend at that, so the birthday dinner was pushed to May 30.
It’s funny that Audrey [...]

Unexpected blessings

May 18th, 2009 · 11 Comments · Being an Auntie, love, nieces/nephews, parents, sisters

One of the good things about living back at home with my parents right now is that since they live about a mile from Audrey and her family - and Audrey’s boys pretty much love nothing more than going over to Grandma and Pop-up’s house - I get to see my nephews (or at least [...]

An ode to my Mom

May 10th, 2009 · 9 Comments · love, memories, parents

I always knew that I had a special relationship with my mom.
But it took me awhile longer to realize that not every daughter had a mother like mine.
I guess, when I was younger, I thought that all mothers were just like mine.
I thought that all mothers woke their daughters each morning with a loving kiss [...]

My first marathon!

May 5th, 2009 · 17 Comments · celebrations, goals, love, memories, parents

If I’m walking like I just learned to walk (come to think of it, it’s not a matter of if at all), there’s a good reason for it. My legs took me on a 26.2 jaunt on Sunday from Providence, RI to my hometown of Barrington, RI - and back - for the Cox Providence [...]

Waiting for Mommy (be still, my heart)

May 1st, 2009 · 4 Comments · dogs, love

Yesterday, while I was out for a run, my mom found Ryder waiting at the living room window for me to return.
I just can’t even take the cuteness in these photos, knowing that Ryder was waiting patiently for Mommy to come home.

Later in the evening, while out on a walk with Ryder and Seth, I [...]

It’s no secret: time flies when you’re watching loved ones grow

March 24th, 2009 · 9 Comments · Being an Auntie, love, memories, nieces/nephews

I got to spend a little time with my oldest brother’s two kids last evening. I had gone out to dinner with one of my oldest friends, and then had plans to swim with my sister-in-law. Since I had some free time between dinner and swimming, I headed over to my brother and sister-in-law’s house [...]

Sometimes the littlest family members help the most

March 16th, 2009 · 11 Comments · Being an Auntie, love, nieces/nephews

When I wrote a post recently about how I’m going through a little rough patch in my personal life, I mentioned how fortunate I am to have such a wonderful, supportive family to help me through it. The comments I received on that post said much of the same (again, THANK YOU for all your [...]

The many toys Ryder loves

March 4th, 2009 · 15 Comments · dogs, love

We’ve already established that Ryder loves snuggling with objects that aren’t necessarily meant for her.

It always makes me laugh to see which new toy she decides to snuggle with - or just parade around.

It’s not always what one may think. Sometimes she’ll pass right by the plush, fuzzy toy and go for a sneaker.

But sometimes [...]

Kids and dogs - what a combination!

February 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Being an Auntie, dogs, love

Audrey doesn’t have any pets of her own (she has 4 boys, 4 and under - she is plenty busy!). So one of the things I pride myself on as her boys’ Auntie is giving them an appreciation for dogs.
Her boys see my dogs nearly every day. They have become a part of their lives. [...]
