3 weeks post c-section

3 weeks ago today I had my c-section.

As all mamas of c-sections know… the recovery is a little different than that of a vaginal birth.

There are definite dos and don’ts for c-section recovery, and I am becoming quite familiar with them.

I remember my OB/GYN coming by the hospital on the day of my discharge and telling me that with every 24 hour block, I would feel better and better and better.

Sure, I thought. (As I tried to telepathically beg him to let me stay four one more day!)

But, low and behold, with each 24 hour block of time I did begin to feel better and better and better. I guess this guy whose been practicing for over 25 years knows what he’s talking about!

So here I am 3 weeks later.

Walking. Coughing and sneezing without any discomfort. Holding Henry. Showering. Going up and down stairs. And even driving.

Small steps… but as a mama of 4, these things were hard to give up.

I still can’t hold Benjamin (my 29 pound stud). William and Alexander are anxious to have me dive into the deep end of the swim club pool to help with their swim lesson… but that will come in time.

I will say, I did have to do a mad-dash-run yesterday afternoon when Alexander fell in the deep end of the pool, bending over to watch his big cousins play.

It was good to see that these legs can still bolt. And thanks to a faster lifeguard, Alexander was scooped right out.

But talk about a heart-stopper.

In 3 more weeks, I’m excited to get this body in the water to swim. To hop on the treadmill. And to hold the most important things in my life – my boys.
