Childproofing Home Time! When we first moved into our house 10 years ago, my sons William and Alexander were 18 months and 6 months old. William was just a new walker and Alex (if memory serves me correct) was just starting to explore the crawling game. We needed to make sure our house was childproofed as best as can be. I was so nervous about them getting into anything dangerous or doing anything unsafe. Since I was very “new” to childproofing, I had my mom and my sister-in-law help me out. Childproofing Home was a topic I wasn’t aware of and really didn’t know where to start. The first thing we did was install gates for the staircase in our house – one on top and one on the bottom. We didn’t want the boys going up or down without the help of mom and dad! We made sure to cover all outlets and child-lock all cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. We didn’t want the boys to get into anything that they weren’t supposed to be touching. We were adamant about making sure there weren’t any small toys in the house, too. We didn’t want anything around that they could easily choke on or swallow. We also made sure to anchor all the furniture in their bedroom to the walls so that nothing could fall on them. That was a huge concern for me. We really did the very best we could to make sure our home was safe for our 2 little boys. Little did we know that 3 more little ones (not to mention, 4 of them would be born all within 3 1/2 years!) would be coming in the future, too! Childproofing Home is something that EVERY parent needs to do and be aware of.
Childproofing Home Back Then
Childproofing “back then” in 2006 was a little different then it is now. Fast forward to modern day, the modern home is changing and so are the things we need to consider when childproofing. Today’s home now includes items like tech accessories like wires, adapters or headphones, wires for computers and laptops or our flat screen TVs, and things we wouldn’t even otherwise think about like liquid laundry pacs. Since I have a 3 year old at home, I still need to make sure my home is a safe place for my family. It’s become so important to me as a mother and as a mom influencer to spread awareness about safety in our homes. Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, but we are able to do so many things at home when it comes to childproofing to really try and prevent any unfortunate mishaps from happening.

Childproofing Home – Laundry Safety
As you can imagine, millions of families have safely integrated laundry pacs into their routine as an easy and effective detergent option. We have been using Tide’s laundry pacs since they first came out! They are the easiest way for me to laundry and I absolutely love using them. It’s ALL I even want to use! If you’re like me, here’s the BIG thing with laundry pacs — they need to be stored in a secure container, like Tide’s first-ever child-resistant pouch with a Child-Guard Zipper.
Even with the sealable bag, it’s important to keep laundry packets up and keep them closed, so you can keep little ones safe. This is a must and it’s very important that you follow this if you’re bringing laundry pacs into your home.
One thing that really hit home to me on the importance of safe storage of laundry pacs in modern homes today was reading a new study by BabyCenter on behalf of Tide. These statistics truly illuminate how important proper home safeguarding is, especially in oft-forgotten areas like the laundry room.

What stats popped out to me?
* 1 in 3 parents say their laundry room is located near spaces where the family spends most of their time such as the kitchen and living/family room. *This is extremely true for me in our family. The laundry room is right off the kitchen, so there’s always a lot of foot traffic and kids near my washing machine. It’s in a very busy spot in our house.
* Only 17% of laundry packet purchasers consider laundry packets a top 3 safety concern. *This is a huge concern to me because you don’t want your child ingesting laundry detergent.
* Just 29% of parents have safeguarded or plan to safeguard the laundry room. *This is concerning to me because laundry rooms aren’t being seen as unsafe areas in the house. Just like we worry about our children touching cleaning solutions under the kitchen sink, we need to think of every area in the home that our children have access to.
* 1 in 5 parents say their laundry packets are in within reach or sight of their child. *I’m a HUGE proponent of out of sight out of mind. You don’t want your kids to be tempted to touch anything that they shouldn’t be touching, so it’s essential to make sure they’re not in direct eyesight.
I’m very passionate about making sure homes are safe. It’s essential to make sure we do everything we can to ensure a safe home for our children.
