My “Wishes Upon A Star” for My Children

Disclosure: Sponsored by Disney’s Pinocchio.

For as long as I can remember I’ve wished upon stars at night. I can still pinpoint certain moments in my life – like driving home at night from my Nana’s house – when my mom would say to me, “make a BIG wish upon the stars tonight.” I’d look up, see the stars, close my eyes and make a BIG wish! Making wishes upon stars has always been something special for my family and I. In all honesty, my mom sent me a text on New Year’s Eve to make sure I went outside and made a wish upon a star!

The magic and beauty and happily ever after of wishing upon stars started when I was a little girl and fell in love with the story of Pinocchio. This magical movie inspired the world to wish upon a star and see that dreams can come true, if you just have faith and believe! In Pinocchio, Geppetto “wishes upon a star” to make Pinocchio a real boy. With his faithful friend Jiminy Cricket by his side, Pinocchio embarks on fantastic adventures that test his bravery, loyalty and honesty until he triumphs in his quest for his heart’s desire: to become a real boy, which is what comes true. Pinocchio is a timeless tale for the whole family and it’s one that I’m so excited to introduce to my own children now that this magical story of friendship and epic adventure is now available for the first time on Digital HD & Disney Movies Anywhere, on Blu-ray Jan 31. I’m thrilled that Pinocchio will now be able to inspire a new generation with its masterful animation, award-winning music, unforgettable characters and exclusive, all new behind-the-scenes Bonus Extras!

Ever since my own children were old enough to make wishes, I’ve had them wish upon stars at night. It’s something that has truly helped me throughout my life believe in magic and endless possibilities. I love seeing my children close their eyes, dream VERY big and make a wish. It’s something that I feel is a true gift… believing in the magic of the universe. As I’ve gotten older and become a wife and mom… my wishes upon the stars have changed. I remember wishing for a puppy when I was a little girl or for my mom and dad to take me to Disney World! My wishes are a little different today then they were 25 years ago, but they still hold the same magic… wishing for something good.

As I look at my William, Alex, Ben, Henry and Victoria… I wish for them so much in their lifetime. As a mom, you just wish the best for your kids – always and in everything that they do. My heart beats for them and I only want good and happiness for them always. As Pinocchio is celebrating the release of the movie to this new generation, it got me thinking of exactly what kinds of wishes I wish for my children.

I wish upon a star that my children know the true gift of family throughout their lives. I want them to be anchors for each other and know that they can always depend on each other. I see so many siblings drift apart as they get older, I don’t want that for my kids. I want them to always be there for each other and always love each other.

I wish upon a star that my children will fall in love someday. Love is powerful and beautiful. I want them to be crazy in love with someone and have that person love them back just as much. I want them to know what a happily ever after feels like and that there is such a thing soul mates.

I wish upon a star that my children will travel the world. As much as it will scare me to the core, I want them to experience different cultures and places and people. I want them to see the world and feel that they are part of it in some small way. I never had that wanderlust attitude, so for me – I never had that zest to go out and travel, but I do wish my kids the wander!

I wish upon a star that my children will always find happiness when being with me and my husband. I know as kids get older they get “cooler,” but I’m hoping that my kids always love to spend time with us – always!

I wish upon a star that my children follow their dreams and that they believe they can be anything that they want to be in life. I hope that they always follow the path that they want to follow. I want them to always dream VERY big!

I wish upon a star that my children will take care of themselves throughout their lives. Health is a gift and I want them to treat their bodies like temples.

I wish upon a star that they will have a long life with us and their grandparents. I want them to know their family history and love it and cherish it.

There are so many wishes I wish for my kids. When You Wish Upon a Star all possibilities and magic are right there for the taking! I’m thrilled that the movie that inspired the world to wish upon a star is going to be available for my kids to watch over and over again!

What an excellent story to stumble across. I know your children will always think of you and family when the wishing on a star thing comes up (and it will, over and over again in life). 🙂

Our family has always done the wishing on a star thing. As a kid, it was always for tangible, kid things. Now when I look at the stars, I do the same and make all these wishes for my kid. I’m teaching that to my kid now that she’s old enough to understand.

I wish simply for happiness and health for my children. And I hope all their wishes come true (within reason) too.

That is so sweet! My wish for my daughter has always been that she remembers her worth as a woman. That’s in short supply these days.
