Mompreneur – 10 Tips To Keep You Motivated

A Mompreneur is defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur. I’m one. I have been one for 9 years. And truthfully – a majority of my female friends are mompreneurs, too. There’s something about being a mom and running your own business at the same time, it’s not always easy. I’ve found throughout the years that it’s so important (and helpful) to have fellow mompreneurs to lean on, draw support from and help motivate each other to grow.

Mompreneur Tips and Advice

When I’m not traveling for work, my office is at home. I have a designated space right off my kitchen that is “somewhat” separate from the house. It allows me to get my work done, but also still be present at home. I became a mompreneur because I wanted to create a lifestyle that worked for our family.

As many of you know, I started Permission to Hustle with Vera Sweeney early this month. We are passionate about connecting entrepreneurs/mompreneurs and helping each other grow. We’re all in this together! As we’ve been posting continuously throughout the last few weeks, there are certain things that have jumped out to me. As a entrepreneur/mompreneur, you really need to be able to know exactly what it is you want to do and figure out how to get there. It’s imperative to stay focused and (for lack of a better word) HUSTLE.

I wanted to share 10 tips for my fellow MOMPRENEUR ladies out there to keep in mind as we hustle through our lives of work, home and parenthood! It’s not a cake walk and it’s important that we all stick together and help each other out!

Mompreneur Tips That Help

Mompreneur Tip #1. Give yourself office hours

I started doing this about 3 years ago. I started giving myself designated work hours just like I was at an office job. I know with being a business owner you’re “open” at all times, but it’s important to give yourself breaks and to know when to shut it down. Your productivity goes down when you’re tired or overwhelmed, so it’s really important to make sure you don’t let that happen to yourself. Set those hours and stick with them.

Mompreneur Tip #2. Find your own personal work space in your house

If you don’t have a home office, create a space that’s just yours. Maybe it’s an area of the dining room or kitchen. Maybe it’s a section in your bedroom. Maybe it’s your nightstand. Whatever it is and wherever it is, create that space for yourself that’s just for your work.

Mompreneur Tip #3. Find another mompreneur to connect with

One of the best things that ever happened to me was connecting with Vera Sweeney. She has become my work wife and my best friend. We were both mompreneurs and we just got each other immediately. We have become each other’s support systems and shoulders to lean on. Take a look in our Permission to Hustle group for someone. Head to a conference or business meeting. Find someone on Facebook or Twitter. Find that person!

Mompreneur Tip #4. Plan your day

Make sure you start off the day with a plan. When you don’t have a plan in place you start to feel all over the place. Get yourself organized for the day.

Mompreneur Tip #5. Know when to turn it off

Make sure you know yourself and when you’re had enough. When you’re having a stressful day or feeling overwhelmed, know that it’s time to walk away. Grab a book. Meet up with a friend. Call your spouse. Watch TV. Make sure you listen to yourself.

Mompreneur Tip #6. Ask for help when you need it

As moms, we love to try and do it all! When it comes to many things in our life, we have the attitude where “I’ve got this!” I am SURELY one that does this too much!! Make sure you know when you need to ask for help. With a growing business, you can’t do everything. You need to recognize that you’re just one person and you might need help. Make sure you get it when needed!

Mompreneur Tip #7. Never lose that passion

You started this for a reason and never (ever) forget that reason. If you need to write it out and read it every single day, do that! Make sure you’re always filled with the passion of why you started this business in the first place. We all start businesses for different reasons and it’s very personal to each and every one of us. Make sure you don’t lose that passion, it will forever be your beacon of light!

Mompreneur Tip #8. Workout

Workout? Yes. Workout. It’s important to burn off energy and keep yourself constantly moving! One thing I’ll say about this tip is that when I personally don’t work out, you can tell in almost every aspect of my life. Working out keeps my energy levels up and really makes me more ready to take on anything! Start it up or keep it going!

Mompreneur Tip #9. Reward yourself

You work hard. You are your boss. Reward yourself. Maybe treat yourself to breakfast. Maybe buy yourself that handbag you’ve been eyeing. When something GOOD happens with your work, make sure you reward yourself! It doesn’t have to be a GIGANTIC reward, but just as a boss might reward – let yourself be given a much needed and deserved pat on the back!

Mompreneur Tip #10. Shower and get dressed to take on the world

When I worked in corporate America I needed to dress up every single day for work. In all honestly, I loved it. I always felt professional and ready to take on my day! When I started working from home, there were some days when I wouldn’t even take off my PJ’s! Believe me, it’s a GREAT perk of the day… but it made me feel not professional! Make sure you’re taking the time to get yourself ready for the day. Maybe you do your hair. Maybe you put on makeup. Maybe you put on that blouse. It definitely changes the dynamic!
