I have a new obsession. I mean, OBSESSION… my Venus Silk-Expert Powered by Braun. This Gillette Venus Silk Expert is just about everything for me right now! It’s easy. It’s practical. It’s a beauty tool that I can’t believe I lived without for so long! I’m thrilled to share it you today!

I’m going to give it to you straight here. I could (and should) shave my legs every day! I’m not kidding, I literally could shave every day. I have always had quick hair growth on my legs and to add to it, it’s dark hair! My mom and my sister have (what I call) peach fuzz on their legs. It’s blonde. It’s light. You can HARDLY see it. I am not like that, at all. I took after my father. And… I’ll even add this tidbit to the mix… my arm hair is the same way! I have dark arm hair, which I’ve always, always, always been self-conscious about my entire life. I actually bleach it regularly during the summer because I truly am so self-conscious about it. It’s just one thing that I really have always been aware of and have always tried to hide.
Throughout the last few years I’ve looked into getting my hair removed with laser treatments. My best friend Vera has told me over and over again throughout the years to look into it because it’s a life-changer. My big hang-up has been the price. It’s SUPER expensive and I just haven’t wanted to invest in it.
Well, fortunately, I don’t have to now!!! I have been using the Gillette Venus Silk Expert by Braun and I LOVE IT!!! I was sent it to review a couple of months ago and I was immediately intrigued by it. Essentially the Venus Silk-Expert is an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal system. It’s actually designed to read and adapt to your skin tone for permanent hair removal. Just knowing that I can do this at home, on my own was reason enough to try it out!!
Now… I’ve been using it for about 6 weeks and I’m thrilled with the results I’m seeing. It’s easy to do, which I appreciate. I’m using it on “normal mode” because I’m just using it on my legs (for now). There’s also a Gentle Mode for sensitive areas on the Gillette Venus Silk Expert. After reading everything before I started off with it, I knew to expect at about 6 weeks – reduction in hair growth. I definitely have noticed a reduction. I know first-hand how quickly my hair grows on my legs, so I definitely was aware that it wasn’t growing back as fast and as furious! I’m still in the process of using it, but around 12 weeks, I should be seeing significant reduction in hair that has been treated.

So… how does it effectively help with hair reduction?
- The IPL technology emits gentle pulses of light beneath the surface of the skin. Each pulse is optimized to target the melanin in the hair follicle. When the melanin in the hair follicle and root absorbs the light, it’s transformed into heat that breaks the hair growth cycle.
- Hair Re-Growth in 3 phases: 1) the active growth phase, anagen, is when the hair stems from the root and surfaces. The hair gets longer until it eventually stops growing 2) the hair follicle enters the transition phase, catagen. This is usually a short phase and leads to the final stage 3) the resting phase, telogen, signals the end of the hair growth cycle. *With continued periodic use the hair becomes weaker, finer, lighter and grows slower.
