10 GIFS For Those CRAZY SPORT PARENTS #WeHaveAllBeenThere

We’re a HUGE sports family.

HUGE.

Sports pretty much run our life.

My sons are competitive swimmers and practice 4X/week in the fall/winter on a traveling team, 2-3X/week in the spring and summer on a traveling team and practice 3x/week on a summer team at our local pool club. I didn’t even add in here the amount of meets that my sons compete in during the year! There’s a bunch!

They also play competitive baseball in the spring with 2-3 games a week.

They’ve also been BEGGING me to sign them up for basketball, hockey, running and rowing.

Honestly – there’s just no time left in the day.

So, yes. We’re busy when it comes to playing and practicing and competing in sports.

I’ve always loved having them in organized sports for (3) main reasons:

  1. Great exercise for them, the health benefits are amazing.
  2. Wonderful way to keep your kids busy and (especially as they get older) out of trouble.
  3. Awesome way for them to set goals and be part of something that’s important to them.

When they were little, heading to swim meets was so much fun because everything was so innocent. Nobody cared about their times or their places, they just had FUN. That was all it was – pure fun. As the boys got a little older, times started to become important because you either qualified for certain meets or you didn’t. You needed to know your times in your events, it was essential for swimming growth. I really did love it when they started to know times because they woudl get so excited when they accomplished a personal best.  Now that my sons are tweens, almost hitting that teen mark… sports in general for them (OK, for me!) across the board has been well – interesting.

It’s the parents I’m seeing, I’m meeting and getting to know.

Sports parents can be CRAZY. I mean – over the top – “did they just really say that?” kinda crazy. And I’m being totally honest here, I want my kids to do well in everything that they try and do. I’m not an innocent bystander sipping a coffee and not caring at all what happens to my kids in the pool, on the mound, on the court, on the field or wherever the heck they are. But – mama mia – some of the stuff I’ve seen, you can’t make up.

Since I like to be a drama-free girl as best as possible, I would ONLY get into a heated battle unless someone said something to me about my child. As every parent knows, gloves come off when you go for the kid. I’ve sat listening to parents rave about their child on and on and on… as if college scouts are sitting in the audience NOW watching and waiting to offer that full scholarship. Funny thing is – I know it’s only going to get worse. I wish I was wrong, but I’m not naive.

So what would I love to say? What would I do?

My 10 GIPHY VIDEOS I dream about…

1. When I see them walking towards me to sit down, all I want to say is…

2. When they start talking about how amazing their child is over and over and over and over and over again. Listen, we all think our children are superstars, but not everyone thinks that way about other people’s children. This is my internal dialogue…

3. To the reaction of the comment, “They’re just so much better than anyone else their age.” (Yup, referring to my kids.)

4. When you hear 100 excuses why their child didn’t do their best that day…

5. When I see them heading towards my husband, this is my quick reaction to him…

6. The face I’d like to make when they allude to the fact that they’re child could go pro.

7. My reaction when I find out the parents I’d like to avoid aren’t at the meet/game…

8. This is my face when I’m told that they’re not that intense when it comes to sports.

9. When I find out their kids are getting a ton of private lessons and sessions from ANOTHER parent…

10. This is how parents should be for all kids competing in ANY competitive sport, it’s not easy for anyone!
