Celebrate Entrepreneurship on International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day (IWD)! Today is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women throughout the world. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. It’s a powerful day and it’s a day I’m happy to celebrate!

I’ve been an entrepreneur since 2006. I’ll never forget the day I decided to start an “online journal” featuring products that I loved and wanted to share with others moms out in the world. I had know idea that these online journals were in fact, blogs. From the very beginning I fell in love with connecting and communicating with other women, moms in particular, online. It was such a wonderful place to be honest and be real.

In 2008, I created MomGenerations.com with my mom and sister. We wanted to showcase a stylish lifestyle for others moms… and through various topics like fashion, beauty, fitness, food, travel and product reviews… we created our online destination.

It hasn’t always been easy, but through the years, I have truly taken this “little” piece of online real estate and created my dream job. The hours are long and the hustling never stops, but it’s my hustle and it’s my story that I get to share online every single day. I now look at my family… when I started I had 2 children… now I have 5. I want my sons and my daughter to look at my work ethic and to see that I created this platform from nothing but a dream. As so many people know who work in social media, every single year there’s something new, something bigger, something “better”… I constantly need to stay on top of what’s hot, what’s new, what’s going on. I love it. I love every second of it.

I am proud to say that I am the main breadwinner in my family.

It’s something that I have worked hard at to accomplish and something that I don’t take lightly. Every single day I’m looking for new opportunities and new ways to grow my business. There are so many bloggers out there, I’m always looking for ways to make myself standout, make myself different. It’s looking to zig when the pack zags. Being an entrepreneur isn’t for everyone. You can’t take a day off. You’re always “on.” And there’s lots of pressure. But – and this is the big but – there’s nothing else I’m rather be doing. This is my calling. This is it.

I am blessed and fortunate to have a family that supports me, and a best friend as a business partner in Vera Sweeney.

I want to thank cabi for highlighting IWD and entrepreneurship today. They have an incredible business model which allows woman all over the country to be their own bosses and to carve out their own business in the world. They give women the power to be who they want to be and I love that about them.

In honor of this special day, cabi gifted to me their gorgeous Siena Blouse from their spectacular Spring 2016 Collection.

The Siena Blouse is an especially impactful item, as part of its proceeds fund the Heart of cabi Foundation.

The Foundation supports the first one-for-one micro lending program that helps fund small business loans and training programs for female entrepreneurs in developing countries. It’s tremendous and I’m honored to be showcasing it today on my blog in honor of IWD!

Disclosure: cabi sent me this shirt for review.
