The second my 1st son William was born, I became a “photographer.” I’m putting photographer in quotes because I’m as far from professional as can be, but all of a sudden, I needed every moment in my life with my beautiful newborn son measured in photos. It’s truly when photography became important and necessary to me. I wanted life captured. I wanted to have memories saved forever. I wanted to make sure that someday, my son would see everything that I saw, the things he didn’t remember.  Over the last 10 years, we’ve added 4 more children to our McClelland family… and as our family has grown, so has my love and passion for capturing as much as I possibly can through photos and videos.  Throughout the last few years, technology has made it easier and easier to snap and capture the special moments of life. It doesn’t matter what day it is or what occasion it is or what kind of “regular” night it is… I always have the means on me to capture a moment in time.  My iPhone right now probably has about 3000 photos (no joke) on it and about 100 videos.

Photos and videos of my family – for me – are everything.

The problem for me is storing them, organizing them and protecting them.

When I was a child, digital photography didn’t exist. There was film and photo albums and gigantic video cameras. Every time my mother had a roll of film developed, she would come home and pop all of the photos into a photo album. She would label the albums and they would go right on our book shelves.  It’s amazing when we go visit them… each photo album is labeled by month and year. It’s incredible to me. Each photo taken meant so much because there were no re-dos back then. What came back from the photo center was what came back. Every time I visit, I always get lost in one of the photo albums, and as my sons are getting older… it’s fun to watch them get lost in them, too.

But what about my photos and videos from today?

What about my family’s memories stored and saved in an easy and safe way?

Sadly, up till now – you know where my photos and videos are saved? Facebook. Instagram. YouTube. On my blog. And on my iPhone. That’s it. All these precious moments. All these meaningful slices of my life. They’re all just saved on social sharing sites.
