Things You Think and Say When Your Kids Get the Stomach Flu

The stomach flu.

I hate it.

I hate it so much.

We’ve been really lucky for the last 2 years without anyone getting it. There’s just something about the stomach flu. It just rages. It rages right through everyone and you just want to kill it.

With 7 people in our family, there’s never any germ you want in the house. Like dominoes, once somebody gets something, we all will eventually get it. As much as you want to quarantine the kids, it’s seriously impossible.

The boys have been home sick today with the stomach flu… first Victoria, then Alex, then William, then Henry (although, as of right now, he hasn’t thrown up yet). It’s not fun, not fun at all. The kids are weak, tired and all they can do is lay on the couch and rest.

Stomach Flu“Oh, crap!”
“NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” (And you’re in denial until the 3rd time they throw up.)
“PLEASE. SAY. IT’S. NOT. THE. STOMACH. FLU.”
“What do you mean, ‘your stomach hurts?’ do you think you’re going to throw up?”
“How long has your stomach been hurting you?”
“Who else has been out of school sick?”
“OK, don’t touch anything. Or, anyone.”
“You don’t look so good, how are you feeling?”

“Anyone else you know have the stomach bug?”
“I wonder who will be next in the house?”
“Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands.”
“What did you touch so I know what to clean?”
“Do you think you’re going to puke — again?”
“UGH! I bet it’s from playing in the kids playroom at the gym. I knew it.”
“Try to warn me if you think you’re going to throw up.”
“Don’t move off that couch.”
“Please don’t KISS YOUR SISTER!”
“Actually – don’t touch your sister. Or your brothers.”
“The windows are open to give us some fresh air!” (And hopefully kill the germs.)
“Please try and aim for the bag.”
“Do you feel like eating – anything?”
“If you want to go outside and play, that means you’re feeling better and CAN go to school tomorrow.”
“You ate 1/2 the toast! That’s GREAT!”
“Honey, kiss me on the cheek… “
“Once one gets it, they all get it. It’s like dominoes.”

And probably my favorite (which is what I say to my husband).

“We’re all ticking time bombs right now.”
